Ronald Austin Mulkearns
Ronald Austin Mulkearns (11 November 19303 April 2016) was the bishop emeritus of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Ballarat in Ballarat, Australia, a diocese in the ecclesiastical province of Melbourne. He resigned as bishop on 30 May 1997. The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse found that Mulkearns was "derelict in his duty". Career Mulkearns was ordained as a priest in 1956. He held a doctorate in canon law, and was one of the founders of the Canon Law Society of Australia and New Zealand. He was consecrated as Bishop of Ballarat in 1971. He served in that role for over 26 years, until he resigned in 1997. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Ballarat, based in Ballarat, Australia, is a diocese in the ecclesiastical province of Melbourne. It is a suffragan diocese of the Archdiocese of Melbourne and was established in 1874. Its geography covers the west, Wimmera and Mallee regions of Victoria. Peter Connors
Peter Joseph Connors (born 6 March 1937) is an Australian prelate of the Catholic Church who served as Bishop of Ballarat from 1997 to 2012. Biography Connors was born in Mordialloc on 6 March 1937 and ordained as a priest on 23 July 1961. He was secretary to the Archbishop of Melbourne, Frank Little, from 1974 to 1976, then vicar-general of the Archdiocese of Melbourne until 1987. He was consecrated as the titular bishop of Temuniana in 1987 and appointed Bishop of Ballarat on 30 May 1997. Pope Benedict XVI accepted his resignation on 1 August 2012, not long after he reached the standard retirement age of 75. His retirement was described as "early" because he had anticipated that the search for his successor would require him to remain bishop for another year. James O'Collins
Sir James Patrick O'Collins (31 March 1892 − 25 November 1983), an Australian suffragan bishop, was the fifth Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Ballarat, serving for over 29 years. Born in , Victoria, O'Collins was ordained as a priest on 23 December 1922. He was appointed as bishop of Geraldton in Western Australia on 11 February 1930. On 23 December 1941 he was appointed as bishop of Ballarat and returned to Victoria. O'Collins retired on 1 May 1971 and was appointed as Bishop Emeritus of Ballarat. He was appointed a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE) in 1980 for services to religion and the community. Paul Bird (bishop)
Paul Bird C.Ss.R. (born 1949) is the Roman Catholic Bishop of Ballarat. Bird was born in Newcastle, New South Wales, on 17 July 1949. He attended Catholic primary and high schools in the Newcastle area. He joined the formation program of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer in 1968 and studied at the Redemptorist seminary at Wendouree near Ballarat for four years before completing his studies at the Yarra Theological Union in Melbourne. He was ordained as a priest on 17 May 1975 and appointed Bishop of Ballarat on 1 August 2012. In 2016, Bird stated that the estate of a former Bishop of Ballarat, Ronald Mulkearns, had been left to the diocese and would be set aside to help victims of child sexual abuse committed by priests in the diocese.
