Ron Walker (businessman)
Ronald Joseph Walker (15 September 1939 – 30 January 2018) was an Australian businessman best known for his work in managing sporting events. He was also involved with property development and media companies, as well as serving as Lord Mayor of Melbourne from 1974 to 1976. Biography The son of a Hoyts Cinema senior supervisor, Walker attended Caulfield Grammar School and as a schoolboy, he started his first business at a backyard in Collingwood, making dishwashing detergents and washing cars. He then sold newspapers at a train station. Elected to the Melbourne city council in 1969, he served as the Lord Mayor of Melbourne from 1974 to 1976. He became a prominent Liberal Party figure, working as honorary National Treasurer from 1987 to 2002. In 1988, he was appointed as a Commissioner for Melbourne's 1996 Olympics bid to host the Games. The Payette City Hall and Courthouse, at 3rd Ave. and 8th St. in Payette, Idaho, was built in 1912. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Ronald Walker (4 February 1932 – 29 October 2017) was an English footballer who played as an outside left for Doncaster Rovers and Bath City. Career Sunderland Walker was an amateur at Sunderland before his move to Doncaster in 1950 at the age of 18. Doncaster Rovers He made his debut first team appearance in the Division 2 game at Lincoln City on 30 August 1952 in front of a crowd of 20,775 and scored his first goal in his next match at Huddersfield on 9 September in a 3−1 defeat. In his first season, he played either outside left or inside left, scoring 4 times in his 21 games. The following season was similar, though for the 1954−55 season competition for places was tough with him playing 8 games, and without scoring. (Ronald) Bruce Walker (7 December 1897 – 1981) was an Australian politician. Early life He was born at Windsor, to Lucinda Isabel Rowthorn and (Robert) Bruce Walker, who was also a politician. Ronald attended Sydney Grammar School and was admitted as a solicitor in 1925. On 19 December 1923 he married Muriel Smith, with whom he had a son. He joined the family law firm, William Walker & Son, becoming a senior partner in 1932.
