Ron Oliver is a Canadian writer, director, producer, and actor who started with the cult hit '' Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II''. He was also a host on Canada's YTV for the shows YTV Hits, The Ron Oliver Show, Oliver's Twist & Rock 'n Talk. He has gone on to direct various television and motion picture scripts. He has been nominated twice for the Directors Guild of America Award. Prom Night II
''Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II'' is a 1987 Canadian supernatural slasher film directed by Bruce Pittman, and starring Michael Ironside, Wendy Lyon, Louis Ferreira, and Lisa Schrage. It follows a high school student who becomes possessed by Mary Lou Maloney, a student who died at her high school prom in 1957. A sequel to the slasher film '' Prom Night'' (1980), it was originally intended to be a standalone film titled ''The Haunting of Hamilton High'', but was retitled in order to capitalize on the success of the original ''Prom Night''. The only connection between the two films, that the high schools where the films are set have the same name, was a complete coincidence. YTV (TV Channel)
YTV is a Canadian English language specialty channel owned by YTV Canada, Inc., a subsidiary of Corus Entertainment. The channel and its programming is targeted at children and young teenagers; its name was originally thought to be an abbreviation for "Youth Television", though the channel's website has denied this. The channel was launched on September 1, 1988 by owners Rogers Media and CUC Broadcasting upon launch. ''Are You Afraid of the Dark?'' is a horror anthology television series. The original series aired on Nickelodeon from 1992 to 1996; the pilot episode aired respectively on YTV and Nickelodeon in 1990 and 1991. It led to two revival series, with the first airing from 1999 to 2000, and the second debuting in 2019. The original series was distributed worldwide by D. J. MacHale and Ned Kandel and was picked up by Nickelodeon in 1991. MacHale, Kandel, and Nickelodeon teamed up with the Canadian company Cinar, and as a part of the deal the show was filmed in Richmond, British Columbia, and in the Greater Montreal area of Quebec. ''Goosebumps'' is a children's anthology horror television series based on R. L. Stine's best-selling book series of the same name. It is an anthology of stories about tweens and young teens finding themselves in creepy and unusual situations, typically involving supernatural elements or the occult. Production ''Goosebumps'' was filmed largely in the Canadian province of Ontario, with different houses and historic properties in Toronto, Markham and other outlying rural areas serving often as the sets for each episode rather than constructing artificial houses and buildings. Canada also provided a more affordable filming location and an aesthetic that could double as American while maintaining ambiguity in terms of location and setting.
