Ron Mathis
Ronald Vance Mathis (born September 25, 1958) is a former professional baseball player. He was a right-handed pitcher over parts of two seasons (1985, 1987) with the Houston Astros. For his career, he compiled a 3-6 record, with a 5.93 earned run average, and 42 strikeouts in 82 innings pitched. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the pitcher is assigned the number 1.
