Ron Cavenall
Ronnie Goodall Cavenall (born April 30, 1959) is an American retired basketball player. Career Cavenall played college basketball for Texas Southern University, and went undrafted in the 1981 NBA draft as a senior. After playing for the Sydney Supersonics in the Australian National Basketball League, Cavenall returned to America to play in the Continental Basketball Association with the Washington Generals, while also playing for the basketball show team Harlem Wizards. While playing for the Wizards, he caught the attention of Rick Pitino, who was then an assistant for the New York Knicks, who invited Cavenall to join the Knicks in the 1984 NBA Summer League. He made the team's final roster, playing in 53 games with 2 starts and averaging 1.8 points and 3.1 rebounds during 12.3 minutes of playing time in the 1984-85 NBA season. The 1988–89 New Jersey Nets season was the Nets' 13th season in the NBA. The Nets had the fourth overall pick in the 1988 NBA draft, and selected Chris Morris from the University of Auburn. During the off-season, the Nets acquired Walter Berry from the San Antonio Spurs, and acquired Mike McGee from the Sacramento Kings. Before the start of the season, the team acquired Joe Barry Carroll and Lester Conner from the Houston Rockets, while Berry was later on released to free agency midway through the season. The Nets held an 18–29 record at the All-Star break, but struggled for the remainder of the season, posting an 8–27 record, and finishing fifth in the Atlantic Division with a 26–56 record. The 1984–85 NBA season was the Knicks' 39th season in the NBA. Bernard King injured his knee on March 25 and was put on injured reserve, ending his season. He was forced to sit out the next year. Richard Andrew Pitino (born September 18, 1952) is an American college basketball coach who is the head coach for Iona College. He was also the head coach of Greece's senior national team. He has been the head coach of several teams in NCAA Division I and in the NBA, including Boston University (1978–1983), Providence College (1985–1987), the New York Knicks (1987–1989), the University of Kentucky (1989–1997), the Boston Celtics (1997–2001), the University of Louisville (2001–2017), and Panathinaikos of the Greek Basket League and EuroLeague (2018–2020). The 1981 NBA draft was the 35th annual draft of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The draft was held on June 9, 1981, before the 1981–82 season. The draft was broadcast in the United States on the USA Network. In this draft, 23 NBA teams took turns selecting amateur U.S. college basketball players and other eligible players, including international players. The first two picks in the draft belonged to the teams that finished last in each conference, with the order determined by a coin flip. The Dallas Mavericks won the coin flip and were awarded the first overall pick, while the Detroit Pistons were awarded the second pick.
