Romstar Games
Romstar Inc. was a video game distribution company based in Torrance, California that started operations in 1984. They originally started as the first American distribution arm for SNK (before SNK of America was founded in 1987). They were known for licensing arcade games from major makers for distribution. Among Romstar's clients include Taito, Capcom, SNK, Toaplan, and Seta. They also made games for the Nintendo Entertainment System, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, and Game Boy. The ultimate fate of the company is not known. Games continued to be released using the Romstar name until at least 1994 (Goofy Hoops). It is also partnered with Capcom in 1993 to form Game Star (a.k.a. GameStar Inc.), an electromechanical factory in Arlington Heights, Illinois that Romstar had a 30% stake in. Tiger Heli
is a vertically scrolling shooter game developed by Toaplan and released for arcades in 1985. It was published in Japan by Taito and in North America by Romstar. Controlling the titular attack helicopter, the player must fight endless waves of military vehicles while avoiding collision with their projectiles and other obstacles. The Tiger-Heli has a powerful bomb at its disposal that can clear the screen of enemies when fired. It was the first shoot 'em up game from Toaplan, and their third video game overall. ''Tiger-Heli'' was the creation of video game composers Masahiro Yuge and Tatsuya Uemura, who had previously worked on several titles for Japanese companies Orca and Crux before both of them declared bankruptcy. ''Rally Bike'' is a racing arcade video game originally developed by Toaplan and published by Taito in May 1988.Translationby Shmuplations. ). In ''Rally Bike'', players compete against computer-controlled opponents in races across locations in the United States. Initially released in arcades, the game was ported to the Nintendo Entertainment System and X68000 by different developers. ''Rally Bike'' was met with mixed reception from video game magazines and dedicated outlets that reviewed the game when it launched in arcades and its ports. ''Final Blow'' is a boxing arcade video game released in 1988 by Taito. The name remained the same for all ported platforms, except for the Sega Genesis versions, which Sega released outside Japan as ''James 'Buster' Douglas Knockout Boxing'' featuring Buster Douglas himself in 1990 immediately after his upset victory over Mike Tyson. Plot The game follows a single season boxing championship run. There are five fictional fighters competing: Dynamite Joe - The Miracle Fighter, Fernando Gomez - The South American Eagle, Kim Nang - The Korean Comet, King Jason - The Black King, and The Detroit Kid - The Invincible Black Panther. Gameplay The game is a side-scrolling boxing game where the player moves left and right to control a screen sized boxer. ''Twin Eagle: Revenge Joe's Brother'' is a scrolling shooter, vertically scrolling shooter arcade game which was published in 1988. It was developed by SETA Corporation and licensed to Taito. It was one of the first arcade to use extensive digital sampling, from Digitized, digitized photos to a digitized soundtrack. Controlling a helicopter, the player shoots aircraft and other attackers to earn points. If certain buildings are destroyed, hostages are found and extra points are received for saving them. A NES port was published a year later by Romstar. ''Twin Eagle'' was followed up by a sequel in 1994, ''Twin Eagle II: The Rescue Mission'', also by SETA. Seibu Kaihatsu
was a Japanese manufacturer of arcade games. The company was founded in 1982 at Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Japan as , but changed to its current name sometime in 1984. It is currently owned by Hitoshi Hamada. One of their earliest arcade hits was the 1989 rail shooter '' Dynamite Duke'', one of the first to combine close combat with long-range shooting. A year later, Seibu Kaihatsu became best known for their 1990 vertical-scrolling shoot 'em up arcade game '' Raiden'', which was successful enough to earn several sequels and spin-offs in its series of titles. In 1991, a development department known as was spun off from Seibu Kaihatsu. During the late '80s, Fabtek bought the rights to internationally distribute Seibu Kaihatsu's arcade titles outside Japan.
