''Romanzo di una strage'' (internationally released as ''Piazza Fontana: The Italian Conspiracy'') is a 2012 Italian historical drama film directed by Marco Tullio Giordana. It is loosely based on the book ''Il segreto di Piazza Fontana'' by Paolo Cucchiarelli. The film deals with the reconstruction of the Piazza Fontana bombing that took place in Milan December 12, 1969, and of the tragic events that ensued, from the death of Giuseppe Pinelli, which occurred in mysterious circumstances during an interrogation, to the death of the Commissioner Luigi Calabresi, who had led the investigation. In July 2012, ''Romanzo di una strage'' entered the 47th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, where it won the Special Jury Prize. It was nominated to 16 David di Donatello awards, and won three (for best supporting actor, best supporting actress and best visual effects). Carlo Biotti
Carlo Biotti (1901 – 10 December 1977) was an Italian judge, the President of the Court of Milan and a Magistrate of the Supreme Court of Cassation. His forced recusal from the case brought by the widow of Giuseppe Pinelli against the police commissioner Luigi Calabresi in 1971 became a ''cause célèbre''. Biotti was the presiding judge in the case brought by the widow of Giuseppe Pinelli against the police commissioner Luigi Calabresi. Luigi Calabresi (14 November 1937 – 17 May 1972) was an Italian Police officer in Milan assassinated by far-left terrorists. This was one of the most important murders during the historical period of social turmoil and political violence in Italy known as the " Years of Lead". Spanning from the late 1960s until the late 1980s, they were marked by a wave of both far-left and far-right incidents of political terrorism. Early life and education Calabresi was born on 14 November 1937 into a middle-class Roman family. His father was a wine and cooking oil merchant. He attended the classical secondary school ''San Leone Magno'' and then the Sapienza University of Rome to study Law. In 1964, he successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis on the Sicilian Mafia.
