Romantic comedy (also known as romcom or rom-com) is a subgenre of comedy and slice of life fiction, focusing on lighthearted, humorous plot lines centered on romantic ideas, such as how true love is able to surmount most obstacles. In a typical romantic comedy, the two lovers tend to be young, likeable, and seemingly meant for each other, yet they are kept apart by some complicating circumstance (e.g., class differences, parental interference, a previous girlfriend or boyfriend) until, surmounting all obstacles, they are finally united. A fairy-tale-style happy ending is a typical feature. Romantic comedy films are a certain genre of comedy films as well as of romance films, and may also have elements of screwball comedies. DNA²
is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Masakazu Katsura. It was serialized in Shueisha's ''Weekly Shōnen Jump'' magazine between August 1993 and July 1994, spanning 42 chapters collected in a total of five ''tankōbon'' volumes. ''DNA²'' was adapted into a 12-episode anime television series by Madhouse and Studio Deen, broadcast on Nippon Television from October to December 1994. This was followed by a three-episode anime original video animation (OVA) in 1995. The anime TV series and the OVA were licensed in North America by Central Park Media. is a Japanese ''shōnen'' manga series written and illustrated by Jin Kobayashi. First serialized in ''Weekly Shōnen Magazine'' from October 22, 2002 to July 23, 2008, all 345 chapters were later collected in 22 ''tankōbon'' volumes by Kodansha. ''Magazine Special'' published ''School Rumble Z'' monthly from August 20, 2008 to May 20, 2009. A romance comedy centering on relationships between Japanese high school students, ''School Rumble'' focuses on a love triangle involving the series' two protagonists, Tenma Tsukamoto and Kenji Harima, and one of their classmates, Oji Karasuma. (''Smash Hit''), with character design by Miwa Oshima. The plot centers on the relationships between screenwriter Naoto Ohizumi, and the all-female cast of a Super Sentai TV show he works on.
