Romanian Writers' Union
The Writers' Union of Romania (), founded in March 1949, is a professional association of writers in Romania. It also has a subsidiary in Chișinău, Republic of Moldova. The Writers' Union of Romania was created by the communist regime by taking over the former Romanian Writers' Society (''Societatea Scriitorilor Români''), which had been established in 1908. The Union organizes the annual Days and Nights of Literature Festival, and the awarding of the prestigious Ovid Prize for Literature. Tudor Arghezi
Tudor Arghezi (; 21 May 1880 – 14 July 1967) was a Romanian writer, best known for his unique contribution to poetry and children's literature. Born Ion N. Theodorescu in Bucharest, he explained that his pen name was related to ''Argesis'', the Latin name for the Argeș River. Biography Early life He graduated from Saint Sava High School in October 1896, started working to pay for his studies, and made his debut in 1896, publishing verses in Alexandru Macedonski's magazine ''Liga Ortodoxă'' under the name ''Ion Theo''. Soon after, Macedonski, the herald of Romanian Symbolism, publicized his praise for the young poet: "This young man, at an age when I was still prattling verses, with an audacity that knows no boundaries, but not yet crowned by the most glittering success, parts with the entire old versification technique, with all banalities in images in ideas that have for long been judged, here and elsewhere, as a summit of poetry and art." Sorin Lavric
Sorin Lavric (born 27 November 1967 in Turnu Severin, Socialist Republic of Romania) is a Romanian writer, philosopher and politician. Having started studying medicine in 1987, Lavric later began studying philosophy as well. Posteriorly, as he did not want to be a physician, he focused entirely on philosophy. Lavric finished his university studies in 1996 and obtained a doctorate in philosophy in 2005. Lavric has written several books. He has made in the past numerous comments that have been deemed as racist, homophobic and misogynistic that have provoked his expulsion from the Writers' Union of Romania. Despite this, he has affirmed that he is not a misogynist. Lavric eventually became a politician "to confront the corruption and political class of Romania". Aurel Pantea (; born 10 March 1952) is a Romanian poet and literary critic. Born in Chețani, Mureș County into a family of peasants, Pantea attended the Faculty of Letters of the Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj, graduating in 1976. During the university years he collaborated with the magazine ''Equinox''. After graduation, he taught at Borșa and Alba Iulia. Eugenia Mihalea
''Eugenia'' is a genus of flowering plants in the myrtle family Myrtaceae. It has a worldwide, although highly uneven, distribution in tropical and subtropical regions. The bulk of the approximately 1,100 species occur in the New World tropics, especially in the northern Andes, the Caribbean, and the Atlantic Forest (coastal forests) of eastern Brazil. Other centers of diversity include New Caledonia and Madagascar. Many of the species that occur in the Old World have received a new classification into the genus ''Syzygium''. All species are woody evergreen trees and shrubs. AGERPRES () is the national news agency of Romania. History The National News Agency "AGERPRES" is the oldest Romanian news agency and the first autonomous agency in Romania. It was established in March 1889 at the initiative of Foreign Minister Petre P. Carp, as the Telegraph Agency of Romania or Romanian Agency with serving as a "fast and accurate service of all general or special interest news". The Telegraph Agency of Romania was suspended from the end of 1916 until the end of World War I. On June 16, 1921, it established the agency Orient-Radio, "caring only for the general interest and that of its subscribers." In 1926 it takes place a new reorganization of the agency, the Romanian Parliament decided shifting to name RADOR - Information Telegraph Agency. Vasile Sebastian Dîncu (; born 25 November 1961) is a Romanian politician, sociologist, professor and writer who served as Deputy Prime Minister in the Cioloș Cabinet and was Minister of National Defence in the Ciucă Cabinet. Biography Vasile Dîncu was born on 25 November 1961 in Năsăud, a town now in Bistrița-Năsăud County. Dîncu is a member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) since 2019, having previously been part of the party from 2000 to 2008. She has also been a Member of the European Parliament, of the Party of European Socialists (PES) and a Senator of Romania. Ioana Crăciunescu
Ioana Crăciunescu (born 1950) is a Romanian actress and poet. Biography Ioana, also named Luminita, Crăciunescu, was born in Bucharest, the daughter of a civil engineer. She studied at the Caragiale Academy of Theatrical Arts and Cinematography in her native city and in 1973 became a member of the Nottara Theatre Company. She has published six volumes of collected poetry beginning with ''Duminica absentă'' (Sunday absent) in 1980 for which she won the Writers' Union of Romania Prize the following year. She made her film debut in 1974 and achieved her first major success in 1979 as Ana Baciu in the film ''Blestemul pământului, blestemul iubirii'' (The curse of the land, the curse of love). Paul Cernat (born August 5, 1972 in Bucharest) is a Romanian essayist and literary critic. He has a Ph.D. summa cum laude in philology. Ștefan Augustin Doinaș
Ștefan Augustin Doinaș (; pen name of Ștefan Popa) (April 26, 1922 – May 25, 2002) was a Romanian Neoclassical poet of the Communist era. Doinaș was born in Cherechiu, Bihor County. After completing high school in Arad, he studied philology in Sibiu, where the University of Cluj had moved in the wake of the Hungarian occupation of Northern Transylvania. Here he joined the Sibiu Literary Circle, a group formed around Lucian Blaga. Doinaș published his first volume of poems, ''Cartea mareelor'', in 1964. Some of his most famous works include: ''Omul cu compasul'', ''Seminția lui Laokoon'', ''Anotimpul discret'', ''Interiorul unui poem'' and ''Lamentații''. In 1992, he became a member of the Romanian Academy, and in 2002, honorary president of the Writers' Union of Romania. Doinaș died of throat cancer in Bucharest.
