Romania In The Eurovision Song Contest 2014
Romania participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with the song "Miracle" written by Ovi, Phillip Halloun, Frida Amundsen and Beyond51. The song was performed by Paula Seling and Ovi, both of them which had previously represented Romania in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2010 where they placed third in the final with the song " Playing with Fire". The Romanian broadcaster Televiziunea Română (TVR) organised the national final ''Selecția Națională 2014'' in order to select the Romanian entry for the 2014 contest in Copenhagen, Denmark. Twelve entries were selected to compete in the national final on 1 March 2014 where "Miracle" performed by Paula Seling and Ovi was selected as the winner after scoring top marks from a five-member jury panel and a public televote. Paula Seling (, born 25 December 1978) is a Romanian singer, songwriter, record producer, DJ, and television personality. Raised in Baia Mare, she attended Gheorghe Șincai National College and later moved to Bucharest to pursue a career in music. She has released more than thirteen albums (including three Christmas albums) and over twenty singles, which include two top-ten hits in the Romanian Top 100, a minor European hit which entered the charts in Finland and Norway, as well as the UK Singles Chart. Corina Chiriac (born 26 October 1949) is a Romanian singer, composer, lyricist, television director and actress. She was one of the most successful Romanian singers of the 1970s and 1980s. Romania participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Belgrade, Serbia. They selected their entry, "Pe-o margine de lume" (English: "On an edge of the world"), by Romanian singers Nico and Vlad through the national selection competition ''Selecția Națională 2008'' in February 2008. Controversy surrounded the event, as the organising broadcaster, Romanian Television (TVR), was accused of conspiracy, and the song reviewed for plagiarism. Mădălin Ştefan Voicu (born 10 July 1952, in Bucharest) is a Romanian musician and politician of Romani ethnicity. Voicu is a member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and has been a parliamentarian in the Chamber of Deputies since 1996. He is one of only two ethnic Romani politicians in the current parliament; the other is Nicolae Păun, who holds the seat specifically reserved for a member of the Romani minority. Mădălin is the son of Ion Voicu, a well-known Romani-Romanian musician. Ștefan Stan (born 2 July 1977 in Bucharest, Romania) is a Romanian singer and the winner of the first season of Romanian reality talent show ''Vocea României'' 2011. Musically, he approaches the blues genre.
