Roman Novotný (; born 5 January 1986) is a Czech long jump The long jump is a track and field event in which athletes combine speed, strength and agility in an attempt to leap as far as possible from a takeoff point. Along with the triple jump, the two events that measure jumping for distance as a ...er. He finished seventh at the 2003 World Youth Championships, won the silver medal at the 2007 Summer Universiade and finished eighth at the 2008 Olympic Games. His personal best jump is 8.21 metres, achieved in July 2008 in Brno. Josef Odložil Memorial
The Josef Odložil Memorial ( cs, Memoriál Josefa Odložila) is an annual track and field meeting which takes place in June at Stadion Juliska (until 2001 at Stadion Evžena Rošického) in Prague, Czech Republic. The competition was first held in 1994 as a race over 2000 m in memory of Czech middle-distance runner Josef Odložil – a silver medallist over 1500 metres at the 1964 Summer Olympics, who died in 1993. The programme expanded to a wider selection of track and field events the following year. The meet grew in stature, attracting a number of top-class international competitors, and by 2004 it had gained IAAF Grand Prix status and was broadcast on television by Eurosport. In 2011, it was selected as an "Outdoor Premium Meeting" by the European Athletics Association. 2012 European Athletics Championships
The 2012 European Athletics Championships were held in Helsinki, Finland between 27 June and 1 July 2012. This edition marks the beginning of a new two-year cycle of the European Athletics Championships which were previously held every four years. The decision to grant the games for Helsinki was made by the European Athletics Congress on 9 November 2009. Another city that showed interest in hosting the event was Nuremberg, Germany, however Helsinki was in pole position during the whole process. This was the third time that the city had hosted the event, 1971 and 1994 being the other occasions. The 2011 European Athletics Indoor Championships were held at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy in Paris, France, from 4 to 6 March 2011. 577 athletes representing 46 countries competed at the championships. Twenty-six track and field events were contested, with the events programme divided equally between the genders. Russia topped the medal table, having won the most gold medals (six), as well as having gained the greatest total with fifteen. The 2010 European Athletics Championships were the 20th edition of the European Athletics Championships, organised under the supervision of the European Athletic Association. 2009 World Championships In Athletics – Men's Long Jump
The men's long jump at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Olympic Stadium on 20 and 22 August. The season had seen a number of athletes performing to a high level before the championships, with reigning World and Olympic champion Irving Saladino. The other athlete to jump that distance was Dwight Phillips, who is the world leader with a jump of 8.74 meters. Dwight Phillips took bronze in 2007 and is looking for his first win over Irving Saladino at an international level. Italy's Andrew Howe, the 2007 world silver medalist, withdrew from the Championships.
