The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Nueva Pamplona ( la, Neo-Pampilonensis) is an archdiocese located in the city of Nueva Pamplona in Colombia. History On 25 September 1835, Pope Gregory XVI established the Diocese of Nueva Pamplona from the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Santafé en Nueva Granada. It was then a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Bogotá. The first bishop, José Jorge Torres Estans, a native of Cartagena, ruled from 30 August 1837, to 17 April 1853, when he died at the age of 81, an exile in San Antonio del Fáchira, Venezuela. His successor, José Luis Niño, named vicar Apostolic, was consecrated in October, 1856, and also died an exile in San Antonio del Fáchira, 12 February 1864. Israel Bravo Cortés (born 4 June 1971) is a Colombian prelate of the Catholic Church. He has served as bishop of the Diocese of Tibú since November 2021. Biography Bravo was ordained a priest on 1 February 1997 and incardinated in the diocese of Cúcuta. Tibú
Tibú is a municipality and town of Colombia located in the department of Norte de Santander, in the northeast of the country, on the border with Venezuela and on the banks of the Tibú River. It is the 160th most populated town of Colombia, and the 6th in the department after Cúcuta, Ocaña, Villa del Rosario, Los Patios and Pamplona. It has an airport, and is connected by national road with Cúcuta, Ocaña and El Tarra. History The area of present-day Tibú was originally inhabited by the Barí people. Oil companies established a camp when they first arrived in the area in 1945. On March 8, 1945, the Council of Cúcuta approved the creation of the corregimiento of Tibu.
