The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Andrés Tuxtla ( la, Dioecesis Sancti Andreae de Tuxtla) (erected 23 May 1959) is a suffragan diocese of the Archdiocese of Jalapa. In 1962, it lost territory to form the Archdiocese of Jalapa and the Diocese of Veracruz. It also lost territory in 1984 with the formation of the Diocese of Coatzacoalcos. San Andrés Tuxtla
San Andrés Tuxtla is a city and municipality in the south of the Mexican state of Veracruz. The city is the largest in the Los Tuxtlas region. It was founded after an eruption of the San MartÃn Volcano pushed people into this valley during the early colonial period. Since the 19th century, the area has been the center of Mexico's production of fine tobacco, mostly used in the making of cigars. The city The city of San Andrés Tuxtla is the largest city in the municipality of the same name and in the entire Los Tuxtlas regions. It is located in a small valley with the San MartÃn Volcano towering above it. The city is centered on a square called Parque Lerdo, which has a circular kiosk in the center. Arturo Antonio Szymanski RamÃrez
Arturo Antonio Szymanski RamÃrez (17 January 1922 – 29 May 2018) was a Mexican prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. Szymanski was born in Tampico and ordained a priest on 22 March 1947. Szymanski was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Andrés Tuxtla, Diocese of San Andrés Tuxtla as well as titular bishop of Cerasus on 20 April 1960 and was consecrated on 21 June 1960. Symanski succeeded bishop Jesús Villareal y Fierro a short time after his death on 21 March 1965 to the Diocese of San Andrés Tuxtla. On 13 August 1968 Szymanski was appointed bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tampico, Diocese of Tampico and would remain at the Tampico diocese until 1987. Szymanski was appointed archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Luis PotosÃ, Archdiocese of San Luis Potosà on 27 January 1987 where he would remain until his retirement on 20 January 1999. Los Tuxtlas
Los Tuxtlas is a region in the south of the Mexican state of Veracruz. Politically it refers to four municipalities: Catemaco, San Andrés Tuxtla, Santiago Tuxtla and Hueyapan de Ocampo. It also refers to a high complex natural ecosystem, an isolated volcanic mountain range next to the Gulf of Mexico, home to the northern edge of tropical rainforest in the Americas. Although seriously deforested, most of it is under protection as the Los Tuxtlas Biosphere Reserve, which stretches over eight municipalities, centering on the four mentioned above. The area's early history was influenced by the Olmecs but had its own trajectory. In the colonial period, the population became a mix of indigenous, African and European. For all its history until the present, it has been rural and agricultural. Today one of its notable crops is tobacco.
