The Roman Catholic Diocese of Alcalá de Henares ( la, Compluten(sis)) is a diocese located in the city of Alcalá de Henares in the Ecclesiastical province of Madrid in Spain. History An ancient diocese of '' Complutum'' (the current Alcala de Henares) was founded in the IV or V century but it was abolished under the muslim government (VIII-XI century) and not restored by the Christian Kings and its territory given to the Archdiocese of Toledo. In 1885 a Diocese of Madrid and Alcala (suffragan of Toledo) was founded, now the Archdiocese of Madrid. On July 23, 1991, it was established as Diocese of Alcalá de Henares from the Archdiocese of Madrid (as its suffragan diocese), with the latin name of ''Complutensis'' to remember the ancient diocese. Alcalá De Henares Cathedral
The Cathedral of St Justus and St Pastor in Alcalá de Henares (Spanish language, Spanish: ''Catedral de los Santos Niños Justo y Pastor de Alcalá de Henares'') is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in Alcalá de Henares, Spain. It was declared ''Bien de Interés Cultural'' in 1904. The Carrillo archbishop (1446-1482), elevated the church to the rank of collegiate church. At the time of Cardinal Cisneros (1495-1517) he was awarded the title of "Master" and the current building was designed, constructed between 1497 and 1515 in late Gothic style typical of this stage. The tower was built between 1528 and 1582. In 1904 the cathedral was declared a National Monument. During the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) the church was burned losing virtually all its treasures, saving some bars and some chairs from the old choir. World Youth Day
World Youth Day (WYD) is an event for young people organized by the Catholic Church that was initiated by Pope John Paul II in 1985, sometimes nicknamed in later years as the "Catholic Woodstock". Its concept has been influenced by the Light-Life Movement that has existed in Poland since the 1960s, where during summer camps Catholic young adults over 13 days of camp celebrated a "day of community". For the first celebration of WYD in 1986, bishops were invited to schedule an annual youth event to be held every Palm Sunday in their dioceses. The Voice Of The Desert
The Voice of the Desert ( es, La Voz del Desierto) is the rock music band from the Diocese of Alcala de Henares, Madrid Spain. Three of the members of this band are catholic priests. They are known as rocker priests and have published six albums with contemporary christian music. Biography The musical group was born in 2003 in the diocesan seminary of Alcala de Henares, Spain, when some students of theology came together to sing and record some songs about of God. Their live performances have given them a great credibility and have provided them with million followers in Spain, Portugal and the United States. In 2011, Pope Benedict XVI visited Madrid on the occasion of World Youth Day and The Voice of the Desert gave several concerts in the Spanish capital for young people from dozens of countries on the five continents. Manuel Ureña Pastor
Manuel Ureña Pastor (born 4 March 1945) is a Spanish prelate of the Catholic Church who became a bishop in 1988 and served as ordinary in Ibiza, Alcalá de Henares, and Cartagena before becoming Archbishop of Zaragoza, the position he held from 2005 until he retired in 2014. He resigned citing health problems, though later reports demonstrated his mishandling of a charge of harassment against one of his priests. Biography Manuel Ureña Pastor was born in Albaida, Valencia, on 4 March 1945. He attended the Escuela Nacional de Albaida from 1951 to 1959 and then entered the Metropolitan Seminary of Valencia in Moncada. He earned his licentiate in dogmatic theology at the Pontifical University of Salamanca in 1973. He was ordained a priest on 14 July 1973 in Valencia. An ecclesiastical province is one of the basic forms of jurisdiction in Christian Churches with traditional hierarchical structure, including Western Christianity and Eastern Christianity.
