Roma District Rugby League
The Roma District Rugby League is a competition in the Maranoa district of South West Queensland, Australia, run under the auspices of the Queensland Rugby League. History The Roma District Rugby League was established in 1914. Rugby League Immortal Arthur Beetson played for the Roma Cities Gladiators, before moving to play for Redcliffe in the Brisbane Rugby League and Balmain, Eastern Suburbs and Parramatta in the NSWRFL Premiership, in addition to captaining New South Wales in the residency-based Interstate Series, Queensland in State of Origin, and becoming the first ever Indigenous captain of the Kangaroos. The Western Rugby League folded in 2021, with the remaining clubs, Charleville and Cunnamulla, forming a combined side, known as the Western Ringers, who entered into the Roma competition from 2022. Maranoa, Queensland
The Maranoa is the name given to an area of southern Queensland, about 500 kilometres (kms) west of Brisbane. Some refer to the Maranoa as the Western Downs. The Maranoa is an eastern part of the larger, mostly arid South West region of Queensland. To the east is the agricultural region of the Darling Downs and in the west is the dry Channel Country. Cunnamulla () is a town and a locality in the Shire of Paroo, Queensland, Australia. It is south of Charleville, and approximately west of the state capital, Brisbane. Wandoan is a town and locality in the Western Downs Region, Queensland, Australia. It was formerly known as Juandah. Taroom
Taroom is a town in the Shire of Banana and locality split between the Shire of Banana and the Western Downs Region in Queensland, Australia. At the , Taroom had a population of 869 people. Geography The town is located on the Dawson River and the Leichhardt Highway, north west of the state capital, Brisbane, from Rockhampton and from Toowoomba. History Prussian explorer Ludwig Leichhardt passed through the district in 1844, carving his initials and date on a coolibah tree that now stands in the centre of town.
