Rollands Plains is a village and bounded rural locality in Mid North Coast of New South Wales, Australia. Location and economy Located 320 km north of Sydney and 20 km west of Port Macquarie, New South Wales, between the town of Telegraph Point and Willi Willi National Park it is roughly equivalent with Tinebank parish of Macquarie county. It is within Port Macquarie-Hastings Council area, and is divided into Rollands Plains and Upper Rollands Plains. Rollands Plains is also a part of the traditional Dunghutti land. The Birpai people have lived in this area for more than 40,000 years. The economy is primarily agricultural although timber getting was dominant in the past, with parts of the locality being cleared as soldier settlements following World War I. Archibald Clunes Innes
Archibald Clunes Innes (1799–1857) was a soldier and pastoralist from Thrumster, Caithness, Scotland. When he arrived in Australia in 1822 he was a captain in the Third Regiment (Buffs), on the ship ''Eliza'', in charge of 170 convicts. Innes was a commandant at the Port Macquarie penal settlement from November 1826 to April 1827. He then spent time in Sydney as brigade major before becoming a superintendent of police and magistrate at Parramatta, until 1829. Captain Innes returned in 1830 and settled on his grant of 2,568 acres (1,039 ha) of land near Port Macquarie where the 22-room Lake Innes house was built, using convict labour, in several stages between 1831 and 1843. Mount Banda Banda, a mountain of the Mid North Coast region of New South Wales, Australia, is situated from Sydney within the Willi Willi National Park. Soldier Settlement
Soldier settlement was the settlement of land throughout parts of Australia by returning discharged soldiers under soldier settlement schemes administered by state governments after World War I and World War II. The post-World War II settlements were co-ordinated by the Commonwealth Soldier Settlement Commission. Birpai
The Birrbay people, also spelt Birpai, Biripi, Birippi and variant spellings, are an Aboriginal Australian people of New South Wales. They share a dialect continuum with the Worimi people. Language The Gathang language (aka Gadjang or Worimi) is the speech of the Birrbay centred in Port Macquarie. Birpai is spelt Biripi in southern areas, such as Taree. Gathang was a community language spoken by the six tribes of the Worimi when required to meet. W. J. Enright found four elderly speakers of Gathang at Wauchope in 1932. Country Birbay are the traditional owners of some of Mid North Coast land, from Gloucester eastwards to the coast where the Manning River debouches into the Pacific at Taree.
