Rolf Wallin
Rolf Wallin (born 7 September 1957) is a Norwegian composer, trumpeter and avant-garde performance artist. Biography Wallin was born in Oslo, where he studied with Finn Mortensen and Olav Anton Thommessen. He later studied at the University of California where his teachers included Roger Reynolds and Vinko Globokar. Wallin’s music combines an intuitive freedom with a rigorous mathematical approach, such as use of fractal algorithms to construct melody and harmony, resulting in a music that often hints at the influence of Ligeti, Xenakis and Berio. In 1998 he was awarded the Nordic Council Music Prize. A composer is a person who writes music. The term is especially used to indicate composers of Western classical music, or those who are composers by occupation. Many composers are, or were, also skilled performers of music. Etymology and Definition The term is descended from Latin, ''compōnō''; literally "one who puts together". The earliest use of the term in a musical context given by the ''Oxford English Dictionary'' is from Thomas Morley's 1597 ''A Plain and Easy Introduction to Practical Music'', where he says "Some wil be good descanters ..and yet wil be but bad composers". Spellemannprisen Winners
Spellemannprisen, often referred to as the Norwegian Grammy Awards in English, is a Norwegian music award presented to Norwegian musicians. The award was established by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), an organization that represents the interests of the recording industry worldwide. First awarded in 1973, the prize honours musicians from the previous year; it is still awarded annually, usually in January or February. The Spellemann committee, composed of members of IFPI Norway and FONO, manages the award and acts as the judge. 21 categories are currently awarded, in addition to other honorary and industry awards the committee may give. Eivind Buene
Eivind Buene (born 7 September 1973 in Oslo) is a Norwegian contemporary composer. Biography 1992 to 1998 saw Buene studying pedagogics and composition at the Norwegian Academy of Music. In 1999 and 2000 he was contemporary music ensemble Oslo Sinfonietta’s composer in residence. From 2000 onwards, Buene has been active as a freelance composer, based in Oslo, writing for a number of ensembles and orchestras at home and abroad. His roster of received commissions includes works written for Ensemble Intercontemporain, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, Fondation Royaumont and a variety of Scandinavian orchestras and ensembles. The main bulk of Buene's list of works consists of compositions for soloists, ensembles and orchestras, but the composer has also focused on work with improvising musicians, developing music in the cross-section between classical notation and improv.
