Rolf Bloch Hansen
Rolf Bloch Hansen (12 October 1894 – 5 May 1981) was a Norwegian military officer and skiing official. He was born in Horten as a son of Einar Fredrik Hansen (1867–1946) and Marie Elisabeth Christoffersen (1866–1954). In 1925 he married physician's daughter Ragnfrid Muller (1898-1964). He finished his secondary education in 1913, graduated from the Norwegian Military Academy in 1916 and the Norwegian Military College in 1919. He was a premier lieutenant from 1916 and captain from 1922. During the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany he joined Milorg. In June 1942 he was arrested by the authorities for buying food supplies for the resistance. He was incarcerated in Åkebergveien until 31 July 1942, then in Grini concentration camp until 11 June 1943. After the war he became major from 1945 and colonel from 1946. The Defence Medal 1940–1945 () is the award rewarded to those military and civilian personnel who participated in the fight against the German invasion and occupation of Norway between 1940 and 1945. The Defence Medal 1940–1945 can be awarded both to Norwegian and foreign citizens. The medal may still be awarded due to the large number of participants in the defence of Norway during World War II and the difficulties tracking down all eligible recipients. The medal is in bronze. On the obverse is the coat of arms with the inscription . On the reverse is the royal flag, the flag and national flag. Above these a narrow circle with the inscription (Participant in the struggle). The image is surrounded by a chain. The band is in the Norwegian national colors. The band can be fitted with a rosette if the recipient has distinguished himself several times. Grini Concentration Camp Survivors
Grini is a district in northeastern Bærum, Norway. Concentration camp The name Grini is best known from the concentration camp of the same name, but this camp lay further west and had no actual connection to the Grini area. History The name Grini is a variant of ''Granvin'' ( a placename used elsewhere), and stems from spruce trees in the area. The Old Norse form was Grǫnin. The farm Grini is known at least since 1348, when it was parted into a northern and a southern part. Both farms belonged to the Church of Norway, but the crown usurped the property following the Protestant Reformation. The dwelling house was erected in 1658, three years before the property was sold from the crown to a private person. Between the mid-seventeenth century and the mid-nineteenth century the property was owned by the Leuch, Anker and Wedel-Jarlsberg families.
