Rolando Araya
Rolando Araya Monge (born 20 August 1947) is a Costa Rican politician. He is a nephew of former president Luis Alberto Monge. Biography Rolando Araya went to school in Palmares, the place he was born, and at the Lincoln Park High School, Michigan. In 1970 after his university career at the University of Costa Rica, he graduated as an engineer. Just four years later he was elected as congressman in Alajuela. Another year passing by, he became President of the Juventud Liberacionista, the youth organization of the PLN, one of the major parties in Costa Rica. In 1978 he also became Vice-President of the supranational youth organization International Union of Socialist Youth. Only after another four years, Araya entered the cabinet of his uncle President Luis Alberto Monge as minister for public works and transportation. Palmares (canton)
Palmares is a canton in the Alajuela province of Costa Rica. History Palmares was created on 30 July 1888 by decree 68. The first settlers in what today is Palmares are believed to have arrived in 1835 from the cities of Alajuela and Belén, looking for land where to cultivate tobacco and other products. Geography Palmares has an area of km2 and a mean elevation of metres. The canton encompasses a circular area with the city of Palmares at its center. The Aguacate Mountains establish the boundary on the canton's southwestern edge and the Grande River delineates the boundary on its north and northeast sides. Patriotic Alliance ( es, Alianza Patriótica) is a political party in Costa Rica. Originally named Alajuelense Democratic Action was a provincial party for the Alajuela Province. The first general elections contested by the party were in 1982, when it won a single seat. A Just Costa Rica ( es, Costa Rica Justa; CRJ) is a Costa Rican political party. It nominated engineer Rolando Araya Monge as a presidential candidate for the 2022 Costa Rican general election. History Costa Rica Justa was founded by the deputy Dragos Dolanescu Valenciano, originally president and elected deputy for the Social Christian Republican Party. Luis Alberto Monge
Luis Alberto Monge Álvarez (December 29, 1925 – November 29, 2016) was the President of Costa Rica from 1982 to 1986. He also served as Costa Rica's first Ambassador to Israel from 1963 until 1966. Biography Early and personal life Monge was born on December 29, 1925, in Palmares, Alajuela Province, to Gerardo Monge Quesada and Elisa Álvarez Vargas. He married his first wife, Flora Rojas Alvarez, on March 9, 1946, but the marriage was dissolved in January 1960. He met his second wife, Doris Yankelewitz Berger, while both were attending a luncheon at the University of Costa Rica. At the time, Yankelewitz was a college student while Monge was serving as Ambassador to Israel. Monge and Yankelewitz married at a ceremony in San José on November 25, 1965. The International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY) is an international organization, founded in 1907, whose activities include publications, support of member organizations and the organization of meetings. National Liberation Party Presidential Primary, 2001
A primary election was held among the members of Costa Rica’s National Liberation Party (PLN) on June 3, 2001 in order to choose PLN’s nominee for presidency in the 2002 general election. PLN was then the main opposition party facing then in government Social Christian Unity Party. This, as was common since the 70s, was an open primary and as such all Costa Ricans could vote in it with the only requirement be signing membership of the party moments before entering the polls. Previous candidate José Miguel Corrales who ran as PLN’s nominee in the 1998 election (losing to PUSC’s candidate Miguel Ángel Rodríguez) tried to be nominated again.
