Roland Coate
Roland Coate (December 5, 1890 – October 17, 1958) was an American architect. He designed many houses and buildings in California, three of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Early life Coate was born on December 5, 1890 in Richmond, Indiana. He attended Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana from 1910 to 1912, and he graduated from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York in 1914. Career Coate worked as a draftsman at the Manhattan firm founded by two fellow Cornell School of Architecture alumni, Trowbridge and Ackerman. Around this time he also designed a home for his parents at 1624 Reeveston Road, Richmond, Indiana. During World War I, Coate served in the United States Army's 32nd Aero Squadron achieving the rank of first lieutenant. After the war he returned to Trowbridge and Ackerman. Richmond is a city in eastern Wayne County, Indiana. Hancock Park is a neighborhood in the Wilshire area of Los Angeles, California. Developed in the 1920s, the neighborhood features architecturally distinctive residences, many of which were constructed in the early 20th century. Barbara Stanwyck (; born Ruby Catherine Stevens; July 16, 1907 – January 20, 1990) was an American actress, model and dancer. A stage, film, and television star, during her 60-year professional career she was known for her strong, realistic screen presence and versatility. She was a favorite of directors, including Cecil B. DeMille, Fritz Lang, and Frank Capra, and made 85 films in 38 years before turning to television. Orphaned at the age of four and partially raised in foster homes, she always worked. Robert Taylor (born Spangler Arlington Brugh; August 5, 1911 – June 8, 1969) was an American film and television actor and singer who was one of the most popular leading men of cinema. The Jack Warner Estate is a property in Beverly Hills, California that was developed by Jack L. Warner of Warner Bros. who had first bought 3 acres of farmland here in 1926, expanding it over the years to 1937. A preserved 'Golden Age of Hollywood' estate, it centers around a large Neo-Georgian mansion. In February 2020, it was reported that the estate had been sold by David Geffen to Jeff Bezos for $165 million, a record deal for residential property in Los Angeles. Monterey Colonial Architecture
Monterey Colonial is an architectural style developed in Alta California (today's US state of California when under Mexican rule). Although usually categorized as a sub-style of Spanish Colonial style, the Monterey style is native to the post-colonial Mexican era of Alta California. Creators of the Monterey style were mostly recent immigrants from New England states of the US, who brought familiar vernacular building styles and methods with them to California. The style is characterized by two stories, continuous surrounding porches on both levels, and a hip roof, often created by adding a framed upper level over existing adobe walls on the lower level.
