Oregon Route 62 is an Oregon state highway that runs between the city of Medford, and U.S. Route 97 between Chiloquin and Klamath Falls. The highway approaches Crater Lake National Park from the south, and is known as the Crater Lake Highway. While the highway is signed east-to-west, it is in reality shaped somewhat like a horseshoe; heading north-northeast from Medford, turning east as it approaches the park, and then turning south-southeast as it approaches Klamath Falls. Elk Creek is an tributary of the Rogue River in the U.S. state of Oregon. Beginning at above sea level in the western foothills of the Cascade Range, it flows generally southwest through the Rogue River – Siskiyou National Forest and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Elk Creek Project lands to Rogue Elk Park in Jackson County. Prospect, Oregon
Prospect is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Jackson County, in the U.S. state of Oregon. It lies along Oregon Route 62 on the Rogue River, in the Rogue River – Siskiyou National Forest. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 455. History Prospect began as a logging town; its first sawmill began operating in 1870. Prospect had a post office established in 1882 that was first named "Deskins" after the first postmaster. In 1888, there was a mill named Deskins Sawmill. The name of the community was changed to "Prospect" in 1889 because of plans made to run a railroad up the Rogue River, which would ostensibly improve the community's prospects. The Prospect Hotel, which opened in 1892, was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Shady Cove, Oregon
Shady Cove is a city in Jackson County, Oregon, United States. The population was 2,904 at the 2010 census. History The city of Shady Cove was incorporated in 1973. Before that, the nearby towns of Trail to the north and Eagle Point to the south were the historic population centers. Etna, the town's precursor, lay between. Settlers started moving into the area, spreading out from Trail, in the 1870s. In 1882, the post stopped in Etna for the first time, though the Postal Service did not establish an office in a place called Shady Cove until September 12, 1939, a Mrs. Lillian Hukill as postmistress. The city's name has no clear origin. It is possible that a man named Barnes established a town site he called "The Cove". However, according to Barbara Hegne, a local historian, the name for Shady Cove came from a speculative operation by some Medford businessmen. The Rogue River ( tol, yan-shuu-chit’ taa-ghii~-li~’, tkm, tak-elam) in southwestern Oregon in the United States flows about in a generally westward direction from the Cascade Range to the Pacific Ocean.
