Kenneth Rogoff
Kenneth Saul Rogoff (born March 22, 1953) is an American economist and chess Grandmaster. He is the Thomas D. Cabot Professor of Public Policy and professor of economics at Harvard University. Early life Rogoff grew up in Rochester, New York. His father was a professor of radiology at the University of Rochester. Rogoff received a BA and MA from Yale University ''summa cum laude'' in 1975, and a PhD in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1980. Chess At sixteen Rogoff dropped out of high school to concentrate on chess. He won the United States Junior Championship in 1969 and spent the next several years living primarily in Europe and playing in tournaments there. However, at eighteen he made the decision to go to college and pursue a career in economics rather than to become a professional player, although he continued to play and improve for several years afterward. Alice Nicole Rubenstein (née Rogoff, born November 10, 1951) is an American newspaper publishing executive, philanthropist, and writer. Early life and education Rogoff is the daughter of Mortimer Rogoff (1921–2008), former chairman and president of Navigation Sciences; her mother is the artist and muralist Sheila Rogoff. She has two siblings, Louisa Thompson and Julia Peach. Rogoff attended the Dalton School, Connecticut College, and Harvard Business School receiving an MBA degree in 1978. Irit Rogoff
Irit Rogoff is a writer, theorist, teacher and curator. Her research interests include visual culture; contemporary art and critical theory; postcolonialism, geoculture, and geographies, cultures of education and gender. Rogoff obtained her PhD degree from the Courtald Institute of Art in 1987. She was born in Jerusalem, Palestine and immigrated to London for her studies in the 1970’s. Teaching Between 1989 and 1997 Rogoff taught at UC Davis, where she merged the graduate programs in Art and Critical Theory under the department of Visual Culture. Lynn Rogoff is an American film and television producer, playwright, screenwriter, theatre director, and academic. She is best known for writing the 1979 Emmy Award winning documentary film ''No Maps on My Taps'' and the 1983 play ''Love, Ben Love, Emma''; the latter of which examines the correspondence between Emma Goldman and Ben Reitman. She is an associate professor at the New York Institute of Technology. Mortimer Rogoff
Mortimer Alan Rogoff (May 2, 1921 – August 1, 2008) was an American inventor, businessman, and author as well as an amateur photographer and radio operator. He is recognized for his work in spread spectrum technology which is the technology that modern cell phones and GPS systems are based on. He is also considered the grandfather of the electronic navigation chart. Early life Rogoff was born in Brooklyn, New York. He earned his B.S.E.E. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1943 and his M.S.E.E. from Columbia University in 1948. While at Rensselaer he was a member of Kappa Nu fraternity and the Features Editor for the student newspaper. During World War II, he enlisted in the United States Navy and worked on developing radio communication and aerial navigation systems. Barbara Rogoff is an American academic who is UCSC Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Her research is in different learning between cultures and bridges psychology and anthropology. Education and career Rogoff graduated from Pomona College with a B.A. in psychology in 1971.
