Rogersville City Schools
Rogersville City School or Rogersville City Schools is a school district headquartered in Rogersville, Tennessee. It operates one K-8 school, Rogersville Elementary School. The district's boundary parallels that of the municipality of Rogersville, and high school students move on to Hawkins County School District. Text list/ref> History The school counts 1923 as the year of its establishment. The school building was established on the site of the former King College for $125,000. A 1928 fire destroyed that building, so a $65,178 building opened in 1929. The school district described it as "almost an exact duplicate of the 1923 school." Grades K-12 were in one facility until 1950, when a new Rogersville High School opened. Kingsport is a city in Sullivan and Hawkins counties in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, its population was 55,442. Lying along the Holston River, Kingsport is commonly included in what is known as the Mountain Empire, which spans a portion of southwest Virginia and the mountainous counties in northeastern Tennessee. ''The Rogersville Review'' is a twice-weekly newspaper publishing in Rogersville, Tennessee, United States. History ''The Knoxville Gazette'' George Roulstone and Robert Ferguson were the first newspaper publishers in Rogersville and in the State of Tennessee. Roulstone and Ferguson were commissioned by Territorial Governor William Blount to bring the first printing press to the new territory. The two men brought a printing press over the mountains from North Carolina and established '' The Knoxville Gazette'' in a log cabin on the Hawkins Courthouse Town Square. King University
King University is a private Presbyterian-affiliated university in Bristol, Tennessee. Founded in 1867, King is independently governed with covenant affiliations to the Presbyterian Church (USA) and the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC). History In April 1866, the Holston Presbytery assembled at the old Pleasant Grove Church in Bristol, Tenn., to establish a Christian college. The College was built on of land in Bristol that had been donated by Reverend James King, in whose honor it is named. The first classes were offered in August 1867. Hawkins County School District, also known as Hawkins County School System or Hawkins County Schools (HCS), is a school district headquartered in Rogersville, Tennessee. The district includes most areas in Hawkins County, with the exceptions of portions in Kingsport (which are in Kingsport City Schools). The district's jurisdiction includes only high school grades within the municipality of Rogersville; residents there are zoned to Rogersville City School for grades Pre-Kindergarten through 8.
