Rogerstone A.F.C.
Rogerstone Association Football Club is an association football club based in Rogerstone, a large village, ward and community (parish) of the city of Newport, Wales. They play in the Gwent County League Premier Division, which is in the fourth tier of the Welsh football league system. History The club was established in 1890. They played in the South Wales League and were league champions in 1893–94 and 1897–98 and were runners up of Division One of the league in 1899–90 before the following season being crowned league champions for a third time. The club then moved to the Rhymney Valley League Division One in 1905–06 where they finished as champions. The club was refounded in the 1950s by Ivor Charles James and played in the Newport and District League. In recent years, the club has played in the Gwent County League, where in the 2017–18 season they finished champions in Division Three, gaining promotion to Division Two. Rogerstone
Rogerstone ( cy, Tŷ du, meaning "Black house") is a large village and community (parish) in Newport, Wales. The area is governed by Newport City Council. The village falls within the ancient parish of Bassaleg and historic county of Monmouthshire. The parish lies at the gateway to the Sirhowy valley, to the north of Newport on the eastern side of the Ebbw River. It is bounded by the M4 motorway to the south, the Ebbw River to the west, the Henllys Vale to the east and the city boundary with Caerphilly county borough to the north. Rogerstone railway station is on the Ebbw Valley Railway. It opened on 6 February 2008 and links Ebbw Vale to and via Rogerstone. The Welsh Football League Division One, known as the Nathanielcars.co.uk Welsh League First Division for sponsorship reasons, was a football league in South Wales. It formed the top division of the Welsh Football League and the second level of the Welsh football league system until the 2019–20 season when it was replaced by the Cymru South. From the 2019–20 season it operated at the third level of the Welsh football league system. If the team which finished top of the Division had good enough ground facilities, it was promoted to the Welsh Premier League and was replaced by one of the two teams finishing bottom of the Premiership. South Wales League
The South Wales League was a football league in South Wales. It ran between 1891 and 1911, closing down in September 1911 before the start of the planned 1911–12 season. History The league was formed in 1891. Treharris were the first champions after a disorganised first season which was concluded by the top three clubs playing off for the championship. The next three seasons were affected by unplayed matches; and at the completion of the 1893–94 season, the management committee announced the winding up of the league. For the next two seasons, the league trophy was played for as a junior cup competition. The league restarted for the 1896–97 season and grew in numbers, eventually adding a second division, which operated without promotion or relegation.
