Rogers Clark Ballard Memorial School
Rogers Clark Ballard Memorial School is a historic building in Glenview, Kentucky, part of the Louisville metropolitan area. It was built in 1914 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. John Bacon Hutchings (1859–1916) was the architect for the Arts and Crafts-style building. The school was named after Rogers Clark Ballard, a boy who died in 1909. He was from a prominent family in Louisville, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. Thruston Ballard, donated the site for the school from their land and gave $6,000 toward the building. The school began as a result of a joint effort by parents and the county board of education. When it opened in 1914, the school replaced four one-room schools in eastern Jefferson County. The school was known as Ballard School. Glenview, Kentucky
Glenview is a 6th-class city along the southern bank of the Ohio River in northeastern Jefferson County, Kentucky, United States The population was 531 at the 2010 census. Glenview has the 2nd-highest per capita income within Kentucky and the 74th-highest in the United States. The city is known for its old estate homes on high bluffs overlooking the Ohio River. History of the surrounding land were originally owned by James Smalley Bate and named "Berry Hill" for his former Virginia home. The estate was purchased in 1868 by meat packer James C. McFerran. McFerran's horse farm was named "Glen View". After his death in 1885, John E. Green acquired the farm and renamed it "Glenview Stock Farm". The community received its post office on May 11, 1893. The Louisville metropolitan area is the 43rd largest metropolitan statistical area (MSA) in the United States. It had a population of 1,395,855 in 2020 according to the latest official census, and its principal city is Louisville, Kentucky. The metropolitan area was originally formed by the United States Census Bureau in 1950 and consisted of the Kentucky county of Jefferson and the Indiana counties of Clark and Floyd. As surrounding counties saw an increase in their population densities and the number of their residents employed within Jefferson County, they met Census criteria to be added to the MSA. Ballard High School (Louisville, Kentucky)
Ballard High School is a high school in the eastern suburbs of Louisville, Kentucky, and is a part of the Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) school district. The school opened in the fall of 1968. The first students were in grades 7- 9, and a grade was added each year as the building was expanded. This kept the school system from having to transfer upper class students from other high schools. The first class (consisting of the original freshmen) graduated in 1972. From its founding until the mid-1980s the principal was Patrick Crawford. Sandy Allen served from the mid-1980s to the 2003–2004 school year. The principal from 2004 through 2013 was Jim Jury.
