Roger Morris (British Army Officer)
Roger Morris (28 January 1727 – 13 September 1794) was a colonel in the British Army who fought in the French and Indian War. He was married to Mary Philipse, middle daughter of Frederick Philipse, second Lord of the Philipsburg Manor, and a possible love interest of George Washington. She owned a one-third share of the Philipse Patent, a vast landed estate on the Hudson River which later became Putnam County, New York. Following their marriage Morris had a large country estate named ''Mount Morris'' (today the Morris-Jumel Mansion) built in northern Manhattan between the Hudson and Harlem rivers in what is now Washington Heights. Life and career Morris was born in England on 28 January 1727, the third son of Roger Morris of Netherby, in the North Riding of Yorkshire, and Mary Jackson, the fourth daughter of Sir Peter Jackson. Roger Morris (engineer)
Roger Brian Morris (19 March 1933 – 15 June 2001) was a pioneer in railway engineering, having helped develop the rail system for the Channel Tunnel, the hovertrain project as well as a number of the railway systems in Eastern Europe and South America. Morris was born in Liverpool, England. In his later years he became a Fellow of Magdalene College, Cambridge. During those years he functioned as an assistant to students attending the College. Roger Paul Morris (born January 15, 1938) is an American historian, foreign policy analyst, and journalist. He served on the staff of the U.S. National Security Council under the presidencies of both Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon. As an author he has won fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Society of American Historians and the National Endowment for the Humanities. On two occasions he has won the Investigative Reporters and Editors’ National Award for Distinguished Investigative Journalism. Roger N Morris (born 1960 in Manchester) is an English historical fiction author and advertising copywriter. He is known for the historical fiction novels based upon the Dostoevsky character Porfiry Petrovich, and for the Inspector Silas Quinn historical detective series. Work Morris' first novel, ''Taking Comfort'', was published by Macmillan New Writing and appeared in April 2006. His second novel ''The Gentle Axe'', based on the character Porfiry Petrovich from Dostoevsky's '' Crime and Punishment'', was published by the Penguin Press in 2007. The review website Kirkus characterised the novel as "Russian Lit Lite" while the New York Times was more positive, stating the novel "in many ways feels less like a modern tribute to Dostoyevsky than a translation of an overlooked novel by one of his contemporary imitators, transported into the present". Roger Anthony Brett Morris (born 18 July 1968) is the area Bishop of Colchester in the Church of England Diocese of Chelmsford. He was previously the Archdeacon of Worcester. Early life and education Morris was born on 18 July 1968 in Hereford, Herefordshire, England. He was educated at Chipping Sodbury School and Filton Technical College. He studied at Imperial College, London, graduating with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in 1989. From 1990 to 1993, he trained for ordination at Ridley Hall, Cambridge, an evangelical Anglican theological college. During this time, he also studied theology at Trinity College, Cambridge, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in 1992: as per tradition, his BA was promoted to a Master of Arts (MA Cantab) degree in 2008.
