Roger Hutchinson (reformer)
Roger Hutchinson (born 28 June 1952) is a former Northern Irish Unionist politician who was a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA) for East Antrim from 1998 to 2003. After attending Larne Technical College, Hutchinson became a religious minister. He also joined the Orange Order. He moved into business in 1990. Hutchinson was elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly in 1998 for the UK Unionist Party (UKUP) in East Antrim. With three of the other four UKUP members in the Assembly, he left in January 1999, disagreeing with leader Robert McCartney's policy of resigning from the Assembly should Sinn Féin become part of the power sharing executive. They formed the Northern Ireland Unionist Party (NIUP). At the end of 1999, Hutchinson was expelled from the NIUP for accepting seats on two statutory committees, against party policy. East Antrim (Assembly Constituency)
East Antrim (, Ulster Scots: ''East Anthrim'') is a constituency in the Northern Ireland Assembly. The seat was first used for a Northern Ireland-only election for the Northern Ireland Forum in 1996. Since 1998, it has elected members to the current Assembly. For Assembly elections prior to 1996, the constituency was largely part of the North Antrim and South Antrim constituencies. From 1997 to 2010 it shared boundaries with the East Antrim UK Parliament constituency; this link was broken by the 2010 Westminster General Election but was restored at the 2011 Assembly elections. Newtownabbey Borough Council
Newtownabbey Borough Council was a Local Authority in County Antrim in Northern Ireland, on the north shore of Belfast Lough just immediately north of Belfast. The Council merged with Antrim Borough Council in April 2015 under local government reform in Northern Ireland to form Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council. History Newtownabbey was founded in 1958 as a result of the Newtownabbey Urban District Act (Northern Ireland) 1957 and comprises large urban residential areas along with traditional farming communities. Its major industries include electronics, software and telecommunications development and agriculture. Council headquarters were at Mossley Mill in Newtownabbey. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association.
