The United States Marine Corps (USMC), also referred to as the United States Marines, is the maritime land force service branch of the United States Armed Forces responsible for conducting expeditionary and amphibious operations through combined arms, implementing its own infantry, artillery, aerial, and special operations forces. The 1st Marine Division is a Marine infantry division of the United States Marine Corps headquartered at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California. It is the ground combat element of the I Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF). Founded in 1941, with individual units dating back before then, it is the oldest and largest active duty division in the United States Marine Corps, representing a combat-ready force of more than 19,000 men and women. Michael S. Cederholm (born 1966) is a United States Marine Corps lieutenant general who serves as the commanding general of the I Marine Expeditionary Force. He previously commanded the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing from 2020 to 2022. Early life and education Cederholm was born at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and raised in New Hartford, Connecticut, graduating from Northwestern Regional High School in 1984.
