Rodney Williams II (born April 8, 1998) is an American football tight end for the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at UT Martin and was signed by the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent in . Early life and high school Williams was born on April 28, 1998, in Memphis, Tennessee. He attended Germantown High School and was a standout athlete in football, basketball and track. He was an all-metro and all-district selection in football and won both the regional and state championship in high jumping. He committed to play college football for the UT Martin Skyhawks. College career Williams began his collegiate career as a wide receiver. He appeared in eight games as a true freshman at UT Martin in 2016, recording four receptions for 78 yards. The tight end (TE) is a position in American football, arena football, and Canadian football, on the offense. The tight end is often a hybrid position with the characteristics and roles of both an offensive lineman and a wide receiver. Like offensive linemen, they are usually lined up on the offensive line and are large enough to be effective blockers. On the other hand, unlike offensive linemen, they are eligible receivers adept enough to warrant a defense's attention when running pass patterns. Because of the hybrid nature of the position, the tight end's role in any given offense depends on the tactical preferences and philosophy of the head coach as well as overall team dynamic. In some systems, the tight end will merely act as a sixth offensive lineman, rarely going out for passes.
