Rodney Bryant
Rodney Bryant is an American law enforcement officer who served as Chief of Police of Atlanta from June 13, 2020 until June 2, 2022. Education Bryant earned a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from Georgia State University and a Master of Science in administration from Central Michigan University. Career Before attending college, Bryant joined the Atlanta Police Department in 1988 as a peace officer. After earning his bachelor's and master's degree, Bryant served as Police Executive Commander in the City of Atlanta. He was named Assistant Chief of Police in 2017. He was named Sergeant-at-Arms for the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives in 2016. Atlanta Chief Of Police
There have been many police chiefs of the Atlanta Police Department in the history of Atlanta, Georgia United States. The city shifted from a rural, Marshal/Deputy Marshal model in 1873. The current interim police chief is Darin Schierbaum. The city is in the process of conducting a nationwide search for a permanent chief. Schierbaum succeeded former police chief Rodney N. Bryant. Bryant took the helm after former chief Erika Shields resigned following the killing of Rayshard Brooks. Bryant served as interim police chief until the city named him as chief in June of 2020. The Atlanta Police Department (APD) is a law enforcement agency in the city of Atlanta, Georgia, U.S. The city shifted from its rural-based Marshal and Deputy Marshal model at the end of the 19th century. Killing Of Rayshard Brooks
On the night of June 12, 2020, Rayshard Brooks, a 27-year-old African American man, was fatally shot by Atlanta Police Department (APD) officer Garrett Rolfe. APD officer Devin Brosnan was responding to a complaint that Brooks was asleep in a car blocking a Wendy's restaurant drive-through lane. At the scene, Brosnan radioed for assistance, and Rolfe arrived some minutes later. Rolfe conducted a breathalyzer exam which indicated that Brooks' blood-alcohol content was above the legal limit for driving. Rolfe and Brosnan began to handcuff Brooks, and Brooks grabbed Brosnan's taser and attempted to run away. Rolfe pursued Brooks on foot, and Brooks turned and fired the taser toward Rolfe's head. Rolfe then fired his gun three times at Brooks, hitting him twice. A third shot struck an occupied car. The National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) is a membership group of primarily black law enforcement CEOs and command level officials in local, state, county, and federal government. Here is a list of mayors of Atlanta, Georgia. The mayor is the highest elected official in Atlanta. Since its incorporation in 1847, the city has had 61 mayors. The current mayor is Andre Dickens who was elected in the 2021 election and took office in January, 2022. The term of office was one year until Cicero C. Hammock's second term (1875–77), when a new city charter changed it to two years. The term was changed to four years in 1929, giving Isaac N. Ragsdale the modern stay in office. Though a political party is listed where known, the mayoral election is officially non-partisan, so candidates do not ''represent'' their party when elected.
