Rod Matthews
Roderick Alfred Matthews MBE (born 1943) is a British businessman, involved in the telecoms and IT sector, as well as the founder of Scottish Telecom, now known as Thus. Career Having trained as a Chartered Engineer, Rod Matthews became Engineering Director at the CEGB before he went on to run a number of ICL businesses. He was awarded the MBE in 1991. In 1993 Rod Matthews established Scottish Telecom, now known as Thus Thus was a telecommunications provider operating in the United Kingdom based in Glasgow, Scotland. Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. Thus was a telecommunications provider operating in the United Kingdom based in Glasgow, Scotland. The company was once listed on the London Stock Exchange and became a subsidiary of Cable & Wireless Worldwide (CWW). Following the acquisition of Cable & Wireless Worldwide by Vodafone in July 2012, the company was gradually integrated into Vodafone. This was completed on 1 April 2013. The Central Electricity Generating Board (CEGB) was responsible for electricity generation, transmission and bulk sales in England and Wales from 1958 until privatisation of the electricity industry in the 1990s. It was established on 1 January 1958 to assume the functions of the Central Electricity Authority (1955–7), which had in turn replaced the British Electricity Authority (1948–55). The Electricity Council was also established in January 1958, as the coordinating and policy-making body for the British electricity supply industry.
