Rod Hay
Rod Hay (27 August 27 1947 – 30 November 2019) was an English filmmaker who worked in Australia and South Africa. He started off as an actor, then as an assistant director and editor on many features, before becoming a writer, producer, director. He lived and worked in South Africa for eight years. He also wrote ''Catch Me If You Can'', a biography of Darcy Dugan. ''The Canberra Times'' is a daily newspaper in Canberra, Australia, which is published by Australian Community Media. It was founded in 1926, and has changed ownership and format several times. History ''The Canberra Times'' was launched in 1926 by Thomas Shakespeare along with his oldest son Arthur Shakespeare and two younger sons Christopher and James. The newspaper's headquarters were originally located in the Civic retail precinct, in Cooyong Street and Mort Street, in blocks bought by Thomas Shakespeare in the first sale of Canberra leases in 1924. Dot And The Whale
''Dot and the Whale'' is an Australian animated film from 1986. It is based on the character Dot from the animated film ''Dot and the Kangaroo'' (1977), which in turn was based on the children's book of the same name by Ethel Pedley. Plot The film starts off with a scene from the novel ''Moby Dick'', with a whaler on a stormy sea in the 19th century, chasing "the white whale". It turns out that the scene comes from the imagination of Dot, while she is sitting with the book. She goes out to play with Nelson the dolphin in his pool, and he teaches her how to stay underwater for long periods of time and to communicate underwater, as well as the history and evolution of sea creatures. While they play together, Nelson hears the wail of a beached whale named "Tonga" from the local coast, and jumps out of his pool, over the cliff beside, and dives into the ocean on the other side, to check what is going on, with Dot coming along. ''The Magic Riddle'' is a 1991 Australian animated musical feature film written and directed by Yoram Gross. The film tells the story of Cindy, an orphan who lives as an indentured servant to her cruel stepmother, and features elements of famous fairytales including Cinderella, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty and Pinocchio. ''Breaking Loose'' is a 1988 Australian film. It was a sequel to '' Summer City'' (1977). Production Avalon had dropped out of the film industry after an unhappy experience on ''Little Boy Lost''. Having bought a surf shop he continued surfing competitively and continuing his acting career in movies. One day Alan Dickes who had directed Avalon's first film, '' Double Dealer'' suggested he do a sequel to ''Summer City''. Avalon paid Dickes a fee to write a script, which Avalon was unhappy with - but still keen on a sequel. After writing an outline and draft he contacted and hired Rod Hay to direct. Together they continued on the screenplay when Avalon contacted Denis Whitburn to do a final draft script. ''Dot Goes to Hollywood'' is a 1987 Australian film directed by Yoram Gross. It was released in DVD (Region 4 format) in 2014. Plot Yoram Gross' eighth Dot movie opens in Australia with Dot and a koala named Gumley dancing and singing in the streets. There is evidence of an epidemic, revealed to be an eye disease, which is spreading fast among the koalas, causing blindness and death. Gumley has contracted the disease, and he and Dot are trying to raise money to pay for an operation, but they are unsuccessful. Darcy Dugan
Darcy Ezekiel Dugan (29 August 192022 August 1991) was an Australian bank robber and New South Wales' most notorious prison escape artist. During his criminal career, he committed numerous armed holdups, robbing banks and even a hospital. However he became more famous for his daring escapes than for his initial crimes. Crimes On 4 March 1946, Dugan escaped from a prison tram which was transporting him between Darlinghurst Courthouse and Long Bay jail. As the tram passed the Sydney Cricket Ground, Dugan used a kitchen knife to saw a hole through the roof, through which he escaped. The tram is still kept today at the Sydney Tramway Museum. On 16 December 1949, Dugan and accomplice William Cecil Mears (1920–2002) both escaped from Central Police Station, Sydney, during a court recess.
