Rod Butterss
Roderick "Rod" Butterss is an Australian investor, with stakes in property development and the recruiting industry. During the late 1970s, Butterss played in the St Kilda Football Club reserves side, but never made it to senior level. He developed a long association with the club, and became president of the club in 2000, and resigned in 2007 due to a serious challenge from another party led by Greg Westaway. The entire St Kilda board followed Butterss and resigned the same day. St Kilda Football Club
The St Kilda Football Club, nicknamed the Saints, is a professional Australian rules football club based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, Victoria. The club plays in the Australian Football League (AFL), the sport's premier league. The club's name originates from its original home base in the bayside Melbourne suburb of St Kilda, Victoria, St Kilda in which the club was established in 1873. This is a listing of all the commissioners and club presidents of the VFL/AFL. An independent VFL Commission was formed in 1985, being renamed the AFL Commission in 1990 in line with the competition. Greg Westaway
Gregory John Westaway is an Australian businessman and founder of Gregorys Transport, which went into liquidation in 2014. He is a past president of the AFL football club St Kilda. In late 2007 he joined forces with a group of club identities and businesspeople to challenge the board. His board committed the club to relocate its training base and headquarters to Seaford, near Frankston. In May 2007 Westaway came out in support of St Kilda coach Ross Lyon, declaring that he would love to see him coach the club for a decade if possible. Ross Lyon subsequently walked out on St Kilda when contract talks were delayed. Grant Thomas (footballer)
Grant Thomas (born 14 February 1958) is a former Australian rules football player and coach. He most recently held the position of coach of the St Kilda Football Club from 2001–2006. He attended St Bede's College in Mentone. Playing career Thomas began his career at the St Kilda Football Club in the VFL, debuting in 1978. He took a long time to break into the side as a regular senior player, but settled in as a centre half-back. He played 72 games for the Saints between 1978 and 1983 before briefly moving to North Melbourne in 1984, and finishing his career at Fitzroy in 1985. Following his retirement from the VFL at the end of 1985, in 1986 he moved to become the playing coach of Warrnambool in the Hampden Football League. He won four premierships with the club in just five seasons until 1990. Andrew Plympton
Andrew Plympton was the President of St Kilda Football Club between 1993 and 2000, during which time the club enjoyed improved success from the previous barren 20 years. Under Andrew Plympton's administration St Kilda advanced to the 1997 Grand Final, its first since 1971, but were ultimately unsuccessful losing to the Adelaide Crows by 31 points. Also under Andrew Plympton, St Kilda won its first ever pre-season cup in 1996 with a 58-point win over reigning premier Carlton. Plympton's reign did see an upturn in success for St Kilda and was generally regarded as a successful time in terms of turning the club around and seeing a large increase in membership for much of this time.
