Rod Burton
Rod Burton is a British singer, songwriter, actor, musician and entertainer. He is best known for being part of the trio Rod, Jane and Freddy along with their appearences on the children's TV series Rainbow and their own series "Rod, Jane and Freddy" between 1980–1991. Early life Burton studied graphic design at the London College of Printing and started his career illustrating books. He left this field to pursue music. He spent several years 'busking' in the south of France and playing in pubs and bars until an audition with his then wife Jane got him a job on children's TV show ''Rainbow''. Career ''Rainbow'' Burton formed part of Rod, Matt and Jane; a trio with Matthew Corbett and Jane Tucker. Their contribution to the show was to sing a song everyday invoking the theme of the day. Freddy Marks
Frederick Marks (10 September 1949 – 20 May 2021) was an English actor, singer and entertainer. He was best known for being part of the musical trio Rod, Jane and Freddy which appeared in children's programming in the 1980s and 1990s. Early life Marks was born in Smethwick, Worcestershire in 1949 to Freda (née Lawson) and William Marks. He lived in Birkenhead, Cheshire, in his youth, and was interested in music and the theatre from an early age and played in various bands and was involved with youth amateur dramatics. He trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London from 1968 to 1971. Career In his early career, Marks appeared on stage in productions such as ''The Lion in Winter'' and as part of Dundee Repertory Theatre. Jane Tucker
Jane Tucker (born 20 October 1949) is a British actress, singer, songwriter, musician and keyboardist. She is best known for being part of the musical trio Rod, Jane and Freddy who appeared in many TV series, notably ''Rainbow''. She was born into a family with an artistic background. Her grandmother was an opera singer, her mother Jean a pianist, and her father was Rex Tucker, the drama director for the BBC. Jane began to play the piano when she was three, being taught by her mother. Tucker's first ambition was to follow in her mother's footsteps and become a concert pianist, but as a teenager she decided she would rather be an actress. This led her to study at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where she continued her piano and singing whilst embarking on a full-time drama course. Rod, Jane And Freddy
Rod, Jane and Freddy were a singing trio who appeared in children's programming on the British TV channel ITV in the 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s. They starred both in the long-running series ''Rainbow'' and their own 15-minute show. The trio have also made guest appearances in other children's TV shows, including ''The Sooty Show''. The original trio consisted of Rod Burton, Jane Tucker and Matthew Corbett, when they were known as "Rod, Matt and Jane". Matthew left the trio in 1976 to continue hosting ''The Sooty Show'' after his father retired. Matthew was replaced by actor Roger Walker, whereupon the trio became known as "Rod, Jane and Roger". When Walker left in 1980 to continue his career in acting he was replaced by Freddy Marks, leading to the best-remembered incarnation of the trio. ''Rainbow'' is a British children's television series, created by Pamela Lonsdale, which ran from 16 October 1972 until 6 March 1992 when Thames Television lost its ITV franchise to Carlton Television. The series was revived by HTV on 10 January 1994 until 24 March 1997, in two different formats from the original Thames series, with differing cast members. The series was originally conceived as a British equivalent of long-running American educational puppet series ''Sesame Street''. The British series was developed in house by Thames Television, and had no input from the Children's Television Workshop. Matthew Corbett
Peter Graham "Matthew" Corbett (born 28 March 1948) is an English actor, singer, comedian, magician, puppeteer, television presenter and writer, best known for presenting ''The Sooty Show'' and later ''Sooty and Co''. He is the son of Sooty's creator, Harry Corbett, and took over the show from his father in 1976. He retired in 1998. Early life Corbett was born in Guiseley, West Riding of Yorkshire, on 28 March 1948. In the late 1960s he had to choose another name when joining Equity, as there was already a Peter Corbett registered. Roger Walker (actor)
Roger Walker (born 22 December 1944 in Bristol, England) is an English actor. He moved to Derby at an early age and was a drama teacher at Tupton Hall School in Derbyshire in the early 1970s. His first television appearance was as a replacement for Matthew Corbett as a singer on the popular children's television show, '' “Rainbow”,'' in 1976. He appeared on the show for four years, before being replaced by Freddy Marks in 1980.
