The Rocky River is a river located in the Mid North region of the Australian state of South Australia. Kangaroo Island
Kangaroo Island, also known as Karta Pintingga (literally 'Island of the Dead' in the language of the Kaurna people), is Australia's third-largest island, after Tasmania and Melville Island. Wirrabara, South Australia
Wirrabara is a town and a locality in South Australia, about north of Adelaide. It is located in the Southern Flinders Ranges in the Mid North of South Australia, along the Rocky River. The Horrocks Highway (Main North Road) passes through the town. At the 2016 census, the locality had a population of 403 of which 230 lived in its town centre. History The name Wirrabara derives from a corruption of two words from the Kaurna language of the " Adelaide tribe", ''wirra'' (gum trees) and ''birra'' (running water); in the Nukunu language of the local Nukunu people, ''wira'' and ''parl'' means gum trees with honey and water. A timber milling industry was established in Wirrabara during the early 1850s. The town was surveyed in 1874. A stream is a continuous body of surface water flowing within the bed and banks of a channel. Gladstone (including the former town of Booyoolie) is a small rural town in the Mid North of South Australia in the approach to the lower Flinders Ranges. At the 2006 census, Gladstone had a population of 629. The town services the surrounding district with two pubs, three churches, a bank, post office and several shops and small businesses providing basic goods and services. The closest hospital is 11 km away in a neighbouring rural town, but doctors take appointments in the town's medical clinic. Laura is a rural town in the Mid North region of South Australia, 12 km north of Gladstone on the Horrocks Highway and 40 km east of Port Pirie. Stone Hut is a small town in the Mid-north of South Australia, situated on the Horrocks Highway (section of Main North Road) midway between Laura, South Australia, Laura and Wirrabara. History Stone Hut was founded in 1874 as a subdivision of part section 3522, Hundreds of Hundred of Booyoolie, Booyoolie and Hundred of Appila, Appila by Robert Hall of Jamestown and John Henderson of Glen Osmond. It was named for a four-room hut built in the early 1850s by stonemason Thomas Long, which served as a shelter for shepherds and later as a mail coach station for Cobb and Co on the route between Clare, South Australia, Clare and Port Augusta.
