Rockwood is a neighborhood in Spokane, Washington. It is located on the south side of the city to the southeast of Downtown Spokane and expanding southeasterly from close to the city center. Its proximity to downtown makes it one of Spokane's older neighborhoods, with mature trees lining most of its streets. Due to its location on the hill leading up from the Spokane River Valley, the street grid breaks down in many places around Rockwood. The most notable of these is along the winding Rockwood Boulevard, which bends its way from the northwesternmost corner of the neighborhood through the center and across to the eastern border. It is one of the more affluent neighborhoods in the Spokane community. Rockwood is a historic home and cattle / dairy farm located near Dublin, Pulaski County, Virginia. It was built in 1874–1875, and is a large two-story, Greek Revival style brick dwelling. It has a metal-sheathed hipped roof with a deck, interior brick chimneys, two-story semi-octagonal bay windows, ornamental metal lintels, and a Classical Revival wraparound porch added in the 1910s. The center section of the porch rises a full two stories on monumental Ionic order columns. Also on the property are the contributing smokehouse (1870s), garage, ice house site, two chicken houses, pump house, gate pillars, lamb barn, spring house, dairy barn, calf barn, mill house, two pump houses, bull barn, and a corn crib and wagon shed. Rockwood Lodge
Rockwood Lodge was the training facility of the Green Bay Packers from 1946 to 1950. Originally built in 1937 as a retreat for a local Premonstratensians, Norbertine Order, the Lodge was purchased by Packers coach and general manager Curly Lambeau in 1946 and then heavily renovated, making it the first self-contained training facility in professional football history. Although the facility was state-of-the-art at the time, many members of the Packers franchise and local fans complained of its high cost, distance from Green Bay, Wisconsin, and its poor practice field. The Lodge burned down in 1950, with the likely cause being faulty electrical wiring or lightning. The Packers received $75,000 in insurance from the fire, which would be used to help reestablish the Packers' long-term financial security.
