Rockhill Native
Rockhill Native (1977–2009) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse that was the 1979 American champion two-year-old colt. Rockhill Native won the Cowdin, Futurity and Sapling Stakes as a two-year-old in 1979 and also won the Jefferson Cup for his owner Harry A. Oak. Rockhill Native did not run the 1980 Preakness Stakes, ran fifth in the Kentucky Derby and third in the Belmont Stakes. He was first in the 1979 Hopeful Stakes, but was disqualified and pushed to sixth place for interference. Rockhill Native injured his tendon after the Belmont Stakes and was permanently retired from racing in April 1981. Rockhill Native died on March 19, 2009, at the age of 32 at Louis Haggin III’s Sycamore Farm near Lexington, Kentucky. He was being cared for by Don Robinson of Winter Quarter Farm. The Preakness Stakes is an American thoroughbred horse race held on Armed Forces Day which is also the third Saturday in May each year at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. Zenyatta (foaled April 1, 2004) is a champion American Thoroughbred racehorse who won the Breeders' Cup Classic and Breeders' Cup Distaff and 19 of her 20 starts. She was the 2010 American Horse of the Year, and Champion Older Female in 2008, 2009 and 2010. She was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 2016. The Hopeful Stakes is an American Thoroughbred horse race run annually at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York. Exclusive Native (April 17, 1965 – May 10, 1983) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse who won the Sanford Stakes and Arlington Classic. He is best known as the sire of Triple Crown winner Affirmed, who helped Exclusive Native become the leading sire in North America of 1978 and 1979. The Sapling Stakes is an American Graded stakes race, Ungraded Thoroughbred horse race run annually in early September at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, New Jersey. Open to 2-year-olds, it was raced on dirt over a distance of six furlongs for a current purse of $100,000. In 2014, its distance was set at 1 mile or 8 furlongs. First run in 1883, the New Jersey Legislature passed a law in 1894 that banned parimutuel betting in the state and the track closed.
