The Rockford Lightning was a basketball team that played in the Continental Basketball Association. They were based in Rockford, Illinois. History The Lightning were the oldest team in the CBA, originally existing as the Lancaster Red Roses from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. That team changed their name to the Lancaster Lightning, then the franchise moved to Baltimore for a year before relocating in Rockford. Their home arena was the MetroCentre. They were the runners-up in the 2001-02 and 2004-05 CBA seasons, losing a winner-take-all championship game to the Dakota Wizards 116–109 in 2002, and a best-of-5 series to the Sioux Falls Skyforce 3–1 in 2005. On January 20, 2006, the team's owner announced that the Lightning would cease operations after the season unless other investors purchased the team and continued its operations. International Basketball League (1999–2001)
The International Basketball League (IBL) was a short-lived professional men's basketball league in the United States. The IBL was headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland. The league started in 1999 and ended in 2001. History The International Basketball League was founded in early 1999 and made plans to begin play in fall of that year. The first season did not quite meet expectations with attendance, but the league was still largely functional, with the Saint Louis Swarm winning the first championship. The second season was significantly rougher, with the league losing the Baltimore and San Diego franchises and merging with teams from the Continental Basketball Association after that league folded early in 2000. Gerald Madkins Jr. (born April 18, 1969) is an American professional basketball executive who is a former assistant general manager for the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is a former professional basketball player. Born in Merced, California, Madkins attended University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers of the NBA and played with them from 1993 to 1994, and was signed by the Miami Heat on January 21, 1998. Kenneth Darnell Bannister (born April 1, 1960) is a retired American professional basketball player, from Baltimore, Maryland. At 6' 9" tall he was a power forward-center. College career Bannister played college basketball at Trinidad State Junior College, Indiana State University, and Saint Augustine's College. Professional career Bannister was selected by the New York Knicks, in the 7th round (156th overall), of the 1984 NBA Draft. Bannister played in 5 NBA seasons. Howard Jonathan Eisley (born December 4, 1972) is an American former professional basketball player and current coach. Born in Detroit, Eisley played college basketball at Boston College and was drafted in 1994 by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
