Rockbank is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, west of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Melton local government area. Rockbank recorded a population of 2,583 at the 2021 census. Rockbank Post Office opened on 1 January 1862. The area lies east of the satellite city of Melton and west of the suburb of Caroline Springs. The land contains many large volcanic rocks making it poor for cultivating crops. The rocks have been used to build walls between paddocks – characteristic of the area west of Melbourne. Mount Cottrell is the highest land point in the vicinity. The railway station is on the Melton line. Rockbank is also served by Public Transport Victoria route 456 which runs along the Western Freeway, linking Melton and Sunshine. The rich, red volcanic soil in the area has helped build the reputation of local wineries. Rockbank is also the host to Victoria's annual Olive Festival. The Riddell District Football Netball League (RDFNL) is an Australian rules football and netball league in Victoria, Australia. The RDFNL covers towns in the Macedon Ranges and an area from Rockbank in the south to Broadford in the north. The league also runs junior competitions from Under 10 to Under 18 age groups. Melton Railway Line
The Melton railway line is the greater-metropolitan section of the Ballarat line in Victoria, Australia. It is incorporated into Melbourne's suburban railway network. Services are provided by V/Line as part of the Ballarat regional line service. The line runs between Southern Cross station in the CBD and Melton. Mount Cottrell is a town in Victoria, Australia, west of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Cities of Melton and Wyndham local government areas. Mount Cottrell recorded a population of 496 at the 2021 census. It is named after Anthony Cottrell, a member of the Port Phillip association who was allotted the land by the company in about 1835–36.
