Rock In Your Language
''Rock en tu idioma'' was a publicity campaign -- resulting in a series of rock albums -- initiated by the BMG Ariola music label, which other labels later also joined, to promote and distribute the music of Mexican, Spanish and Argentinian bands. Between 1986 and 1991 the campaign was part of a musical movement in Latin America, and of the boom that arose from what became known as the Movida Madrileña. The campaign's goal was to spread the music of rock bands in Spanish. It created compilation albums from the music of various artists who might not have gotten as much attention from a solo release. Several concerts were also organized to leverage the excitement. The ''Rock en tu idioma'' albums were very popular in Mexico by the late 1980s, and included music from rock groups whose work would have been difficult to find elsewhere; many had not previously released an album and were quite unknown. La Torre (band)
La Torre was an Argentine rock band, led by vocalist Patricia Sosa, and founded in Buenos Aires in 1981. Career The first line-up included Gustavo Giles (bass), Ricardo Giles (drums), Carlos García López (guitar), Oscar Mediavilla (guitar), Luis Múscolo (keyboards), and Patricia Sosa (singer). They recorded a first, self-titled LP for RCA Victor in 1982, and were featured at the ''BA Rock'' festival, in November 1982. Duncan Dhu
Duncan Dhu is a Spanish group created in San Sebastián, Spain in 1984. Its original members were Mikel Erentxun (former singer in "Aristogatos"), Diego Vasallo and Juan Ramón Viles (former members of "Los Dalton"). Nowadays, it mainly consists of Mikel and Diego. The group's style was based on an acoustic and simple pop-rock with a touch of rockabilly in great contrast with the more radical rock played in the area at the time. After being signed by Grabaciones Accidentales, S.A. they contributed with two songs (''Mi Amor'' and ''Bésame Mucho'') to the new bands compilation ''La única alternativa'' (''The Only Alternative''). Fangoria are a Spanish electropop duo, consisting of Olvido Gara (a.k.a. Alaska, main vocals, occasional guitar), and Nacho Canut (keyboards, occasional bass guitar). Rostros Ocultos is a Mexican rock-pop band founded in 1985, who were moderately well known in the 80s. Ritmo Peligroso
Ritmo Peligroso is a Mexican post-punk/rock band that was created in 1978 and known until 1985 as Dangerous Rhythm. Under that name, they created the first Mexican punk rock band, with strong influences from international punk subcultures. They sang most of their music in English. They would evolve to different sounds over the years, finally reaching the one that would bring them such enormous success in the mid to late 1980s. In the new incarnation of the band in 1998, bassist Avi Michel Jr., drummer Jorge Gato Arce, and guitar players Moongus Ávila Costa and Mosy (the newest member of the band) that joined these band in 2012, share the stage with Mexican/Cuban singer Piro Pendas. Coda is a Rock en Español band from Mexico, formed in 1989. The band had much of success in the early 1990s, releasing four albums. In the late 1990s, the band had several line-up changes; the band disbanded in 2000, but resurfaced in 2002 with a new line-up. Botellita de Jerez was a Mexican rock band, formed in Mexico City in 1982. Their music is a fusion of rock, cumbia, and Mexican traditional music like mariachi and son, creating the genre called guacarrock (rock and guacamole). The band was always distinguished by a festive and irreverent musical fusion, celebrating the culture of the nacos and integrating sketches and albures in its lyrics and concerts. Virus (Argentine Band)
Virus is an Argentina, Argentine new wave music band founded in 1979, led by Federico Moura until his death on December 21, 1988, from AIDS-related complications.
