Rock Za Hrvatsku
"The Best of Rock za Hrvatsku" (''Rock for Croatia'') was a popular compilation album of anti-war and patriotic songs released in 1992 during the Croatian War of Independence. Some of the contributing artists had been popular across the then recently defunct federation of Yugoslavia, namely Psihomodo pop, Jura Stublić, Parni valjak, Boa and Aerodrom's Jura Pađen. These artists took a pro-Croatian stance as the breakup of Yugoslavia and the Yugoslav Wars began, while others such as Azra did not participate because they disbanded and because of Branimir "Johnny" Štulić's publicly known frustrations with politics of the time. The album also ushered in some new faces who would become the first generation of distinctly Croatian acts: the dance group ET, rock band Thompson and others. Nenad N. Bach (born 1954) is a Croatian American recording artist, composer, performer, producer and peace activist. He has performed with a wide range of artists, including Luciano Pavarotti, Bono & The Edge (U2), Brian Eno, Garth Hudson & Rick Danko ( The Band), Vince Welnick ( Grateful Dead), John Malkovich, Ellen Burstyn, Martin Sheen and Michael York. Biography Born in Zagreb, Croatia, Bach graduated as a civil engineer from the University of Rijeka. His band Vrijeme i Zemlja was formed while he was in college and had two Number 1 albums in Europe (''Vrijeme i Zemlja I'' in 1980 and ''Greatest Hits'' in 1988). Bach moved to New York in 1984, and recorded his first US album, "Greatest Hits" in 1987 with the track "You Need a Love" receiving a music video which would be played on MTV. Josipa Lisac
Josipa Lisac (; born 14 February 1950) is a Croatian pop rock singer. Biography During the 1960s, Lisac was the vocalist of the group Zlatni Akordi. Her first solo album, '' Dnevnik jedne ljubavi'' (''The Diary of a Love''), recorded in 1973, was a huge success and remains today one of the most legendary albums in Croatia. Journalist and producer Peca Popović noted that ''Dnevnik jedne ljubavi'' was also only the fourth rock record and the first female-fronted record released in Yugoslavia. ''Gubec-beg'' was the first Croatian rock opera where Josipa had the demanding role of Jana. The opera premiered in 1975, and the aria "Ave Maria" was a standout song that Josipa still performs in concert today. The rock opera was created by Karlo Metikoš, Ivica Krajač and Miljenko Prohaska. Vanna (singer)
Ivana Ranilović-Vrdoljak (born 1 September 1970 in Koprivnica, Croatia, SFR Yugoslavia), better known by her stage name Vanna, is a Croatian pop singer. Biography As a child, Vanna won prizes in various national children and youth festivals. Her debut was at the 1990 Zagrebfest, a music festival held in Zagreb. In that year she left her hometown to live and study in Zagreb and whilst studying, she performed in a band called BOA singing back vocals. In 1992 her professional career as a singer was launched. She joined a eurodance band called Electro Team who started to perform as hip hop and pop rap group and became an instant star. Not only was she a singer but a co-author and songwriter of all the songs performed by Electro Team. The song "Tek je 12 sati" where group turned to eurodance sound became a huge hit in 1993, and was popular elsewhere across the former Yugoslavia republics. Novak (in Serbo-Croatian and Slovene; Cyrillic: ), Novák (in Hungarian, Czech and Slovak), Nowak or Novack (in German and Polish), is a surname and masculine given name, derived from the Slavic word for "new" (e.g. pl, nowy, cz, nový, sh, nov / ), which depending on the exact language and usage, translates as "novice", "new man", "newcomer", or "stranger".
