Limon Railroad Depot (also known as Limon station) was a major Union Pacific and Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad station in Limon, Colorado. It has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 2003. It is included in what is now the Limon Heritage Museum and Railroad Park. Rock Island Trail State Park (Illinois)
The Rock Island Trail State Park is a long public rail trail in the west-central region of the U.S. state of Illinois. It was designated a National Recreation Trail in 2003. It passes through portions of Peoria and Stark counties. The southern end of the trail is currently located at Pioneer Parkway in north Peoria, Illinois, and the northern end is in Toulon, Illinois, the county seat of Stark County. The right-of-way served as a railroad line from 1871 to 1963, was unused in 1963-1989, and has been a public trail since 1989. History The trail derives its name from the former Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad, commonly known as the ''Rock Island''. The current Rock Island Trail is a fragment of what was once a predecessor railroad, the Peoria and Rock Island Railroad built in 1869-1871, stretching southeastward from the Quad Cities of Illinois and Iowa to Peoria. The Rock Island Spur of Katy Trail State Park is a state park in the U.S. state of Missouri that is rails to trails hiking and biking trail. Work on the trail was completed and the trail was opened on December 10, 2016 . The trail provides residents of the Kansas City region direct trail access to the Katy Trail State Park, the longest rails to trails trail in the U.S. The Rock Island Trail uses "abandoned" (embargoed and out of service) right-of-way of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad between Pleasant Hill in Cass County and Windsor in Henry County where it meets the Katy Trail. An additional of Rock Island right-of-way is in the process of rail banking by the Surface Transportation Board. Missouri State Parks is evaluating adding this additional 144 miles to the Rock Island Trail, extending it from Windsor to Beaufort. ''Rock Island Trail'' is a 1950 American Western film directed by Joseph Kane and written by James Edward Grant. The film stars Forrest Tucker, Adele Mara, Lorna Gray, Bruce Cabot, Chill Wills and Barbra Fuller. The film was released on May 18, 1950, by Republic Pictures. Plot As the boss of the Rock Island Trail Company a contractor of the US government which builds railroad tracks for the expanding railway Reed Loomis has to enter into rivalry with stagecoach and riverboat companies like the one who is led by Kirby Morrow. Morrow does not hesitate to embark on sabotage to stop competitors. After a sabotage attempt where a riverboat was deliberately driven into the pile of a railroad bridge which was severely damaged, the matter goes on trial.
