This is a list of rock formations in the French Antarctic territory of Adélie Land. Bizeux Rock Bizeux Rock is a rocky island long lying east of Manchot Island and close northeast of Cape Margerie, Antarctica. It was charted in 1950 by the French Antarctic Expedition and named by them after an island located in the center of the Rance estuary, France. Débarquement Rock Débarquement Rock is a long rock and historic site (HSM 81). Janet Rock Janet Rock () is a small rock west-northwest of Liotard Glacier, lying immediately seaward of the ice cliffs overlying the coast of Antarctica. It was photographed from the air by U.S. Navy Operation Highjump, 1946–47, was charted by the French Antarctic Expedition, 1952–53, and named by them for Paul Janet, a French spiritualist-philosopher of the 19th century. A rock formation is an isolated, scenic, or spectacular surface rock outcrop. Rock formations are usually the result of weathering and erosion sculpting the existing rock. The term ''rock formation'' can also refer to specific sedimentary strata or other rock unit in stratigraphic and petrologic studies. A rock structure can be created in any rock type or combination: * Igneous rocks are created when molten rock cools and solidifies, with or without crystallisation. Rostand Island
Rostand Island is a rocky island 400 m long and 200 m south-east of Petrel Island (Antarctica), Petrel Island in the Geologie Archipelago of Antarctica. It was charted in 1951 by the French Antarctic Expedition and named by them for Jean Rostand, noted French biologist. It is the site of the rock dome Tour de Pise. Antarctic Specially Protected Area A site cluster in the heart of the Géologie Archipelago, south and east, and in the immediate vicinity, of Petrel Island (Antarctica), Petrel Island and Dumont d'Urville Station, comprises Rostand, Carrel Island, Le Mauguen, Bernard Island, Claude Bernard and Lamarck Island (Antarctica), Lamarck Islands, Bon Docteur Nunatak, and a breeding site of emperor penguins on the intervening sea ice. Anaglyphic Picture Of Emperor Penguins And The Tour De Pise Rock
Anaglyph 3D is the stereoscopic 3D effect achieved by means of encoding each eye's image using filters of different (usually chromatically opposite) colors, typically red and cyan. Anaglyph 3D images contain two differently filtered colored images, one for each eye. When viewed through the "color-coded" "anaglyph glasses", each of the two images reaches the eye it's intended for, revealing an integrated stereoscopic image. The visual cortex of the brain fuses this into the perception of a three-dimensional scene or composition. Gravenoire Rock () is a small rock outcrop about southeast of Rock X, protruding above the coastal ice at the east side of Victor Bay, Antarctica. Victor Bay () is a bay about wide and long, indenting the coast between Pourquoi Pas Point and Mathieu Rock, Antarctica. The bay is marked by an extensive chain of icebergs breaking away from the high tongue of Commandant Charcot Glacier. Paul Janet
Paul Alexandre René Janet (30 April 1823 – 4 October 1899) was a French philosopher and writer. Biography Born in Paris, he became professor of moral philosophy at Bourges (1845–1848) and Strasbourg (1848–1857), and of logic at the ''lycée Louis-le-Grand'', Paris (1857–1864). In 1864 he was appointed to the chair of philosophy at the Sorbonne, and elected a member of the academy of moral and political sciences.
