Rochester Ravens
The Rochester Ravens were an American women's soccer team which played from 2009 to 2013. The team was a member of the United Soccer Leagues W-League, the second tier of women's soccer in the United States and Canada. The team played in the Great Lakes Division of the Central Conference against teams from Hamilton, Laval, London, Ottawa, Quebec City and Toronto. The team played its home games at Wegmans Stadium at the Aquinas Institute of Rochester in the city of Rochester, New York and they also played home games at the Capelli Sport Stadium. The team was the successor to the Rochester Rhinos Women, which was affiliated with the USL First Division team Rochester Rhinos for three years from 2006 through 2008. The original team was founded (as the Ravens) in 1996, and was owned by Jill McCabe, until it was sold to the former Rochester Rhinos ownership of Frank DuRoss, Steve Donner, Chris Economides, Peter Bourne, and Chris Wilmot in late 2005. Doug Miller (soccer)
Doug Miller (born May 5, 1969) is an American youth soccer coach and retired soccer player. He spent one season in Major Indoor Soccer League and nine in the National Professional Soccer League as a forward, winning two championships and leading the league in scoring in 1998–99. Miller also played ten seasons of outdoor soccer in the USISL and A-League. He was the 1996 and 1997 USISL A-League leading scorer and 1997 league MVP. He also won one U.S. Open Cup. In 2011, he became the first player signed to the new Rochester Lancers indoor team and was named the first team captain in the club's history. Youth and college Miller was born in the Succasunna section of Roxbury Township, New Jersey. He began playing soccer at the Roxbury Recreation Soccer League when he was five, graduating to the Roxbury Travelling Team when he turned eight. Steve Donner
Steve Donner is an American sports executive, team owner, and manager. He is the founding Commissioner of the Professional Box Lacrosse Association, and the co-owner of the Elmira Mammoth of the Federal Prospects Hockey League. He is the former president and CEO of the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League, and the founder and CEO of the Rochester Knighthawks of the National Lacrosse League, the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse and the Rochester Raging Rhinos of the United Soccer League. He has also served as chief executive of numerous other professional sports teams and ventures. 2009 W-League (North America)
The 2009 W-League Season was the league's 15th. The regular season began on May 8 with the Hampton Roads Piranhas defeating the Charlotte Lady Eagles 2–1 in Charlotte, North Carolina, Charlotte. The season ended with 10 games on July 19. The playoffs began on July 22 and ended on August 7. Pali Blues repeated as W-League champions, defeating the Washington Freedom Reserves in come-from-behind fashion 2–1, which was also how they had won their previous title. Iris Mora was named the Playoffs MVP. F.C. Indiana (W-League), FC Indiana's Laura del Río finished with the most points (40) and goals (18), while her teammate Monica Ocampo led the league in assists (11). Shannon Lynn, also of FC Indiana, led the league in GAA (0.116) and shutouts (10), and only allowed 2 goals the entire regular season. 2008 W-League
The 2008 W-League Season was the league's 14th. The regular season began on May 10, 2008, and ended on July 20. Pali Blues finished the season as national champions, beating FC Indiana 2-1 in the W-League Championship game in Virginia Beach, Virginia on 2 August 2008. The Pali Blues also finished with the best regular season record in the league, winning all 12 of their matches, and finishing with a +35 goal difference. Atlanta Silverbacks Women's striker Sarah Steinmann was the league's top scorer, with 19 goals. The Washington Freedom finished the season as national champions, beating the Atlanta Silverbacks Women 3-1 in the W-League Championship game in Rochester, New York on 7 August 2007. Ottawa Fury Women finished with the best regular season record in the league, winning 11 out of their 12 games, suffering no losses, and finishing with a +38 goal difference.
