Roby Consolidated Independent School District is a public school district based in Roby, Texas (USA). Located in Fisher County, a small portion of the district extends into Jones County. The district also serves the unincorporated communities of Sylvester and McCaulley. All students attend classes in Roby. Roby, Texas
Roby is a city in and the county seat of Fisher County, Texas, United States. The population was 643 at the 2010 census. History In 1885, shortly after Fisher County was organized, a dispute arose between business partners from Mississippi and a town called Fisher. Both wanted their land to host the courthouse. The partners were M.L. and D.C. Roby, and the town of Fisher is now called North Roby. In 1886, construction was begun on the new courthouse and a school and post office opened. The community had 13 houses by that summer. In 1890, the population was estimated to be 300 people and the town had a hotel, two general stores, Baptist and Methodist churches, a restaurant, and a weekly newspaper, the ''Fisher County Call''. Roby had no jail until 1892, when one was constructed out of stone. A new jail was built in 1926 out of brick, and remained in use until 2016. Fisher County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 3,672. The county seat is Roby. The county was created in 1876 and later organized in 1886. Sylvester, Texas
Sylvester is an unincorporated community in Fisher County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had an estimated population of 79 in 2000. Geography Sylvester is located at (32.7209445, -100.2542708). It is situated at the junction of Farm Roads 57 and 1085 in east central Fisher County, approximately 10 miles southeast of Roby and 43 miles northwest of Abilene. History The Compere brothers of Abilene are credited with the founding of the community in 1903. They bought part of the AJ Ranch in anticipation of the arrival of the Kansas, Mexico and Orient Railway and named it in honor of W.W. Sylvester, the railroad's promotion manager. The rails reached Sylvester in 1905 and businesses followed. By 1909, the community had an estimated population of 600. Sylvester incorporated in 1927 and the 1930 census reported 382 residents. McCaulley is an unincorporated community in Fisher County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had an estimated population of 96 in 2000. McCaulley is located at (32.7820543, -100.2039923) and is situated along FM 57 in eastern Fisher County, approximately nine miles southwest of Hamlin, approximately 14 miles northeast of Roby, and 38 miles northwest of Abilene. Although McCaulley is unincorporated, it continues to have a post office in operation, with the zip code of 79534.
