Roberto Rojas (Chilean Footballer)
Roberto Antonio "Cóndor" Rojas Saavedra (born 8 August 1957) is a retired Chilean football goalkeeper. In 1989, he deliberately injured himself during a World Cup qualifying match in an attempt to avoid a loss by the Chile national team. The incident resulted in a lifetime ban for Rojas and one World Cup ban for Chile. His ban was subsequently lifted in 2001. Career Rojas was born and raised in Chile. He began his career in 1976 with the Chilean club Aviación. Rojas went on to play for Colo-Colo from 1983 until 1987. With Colo-Colo, Rojas won national titles in 1983 and 1986. In 1987, after a successful performance in the Copa América, he transferred to Brazil's São Paulo where he remained until 1989. After his retirement he returned to São Paulo to serve as a goalkeeper coach, training Rogério Ceni. Fernando Enrique Astengo Sánchez (born 8 January 1960) is a former footballer and current manager. Career During his years as footballer he played as centre back, position which was well considered after being featured in 1988's America Ideal Team. Despite his success, in 1989, Astengo was involved in Chile national team scandal at Maracanã, which alongside keeper Roberto Rojas and his coach :Orlando Aravena received a five-year ban by the FIFA. Upon retiring as a footballer he became a manager, graduating in 2005 at the (National Football Institute) alongside former players such as Eduardo Nazar, José Cantillana, Eduardo Soto, among others. Orlando Aravena
Orlando Enrique Aravena Vergara (born 21 October 1942) is a former Chilean footballer and manager. Aravena coached the Chile national team during the 1987 Copa América, where the team reached the tournament final. He ended his international career as team manager during Chile's qualification attempt for the 1990 FIFA World Cup. Aravena received a 5-year ban from FIFA for his part in a plan to have a World Cup qualifying game awarded to Chile. He had ordered goalie Roberto Rojas to feign injury after Rojas was almost hit by an incendiary device thrown onto the pitch at Estádio do Maracanã.
