Robert Woodson (Canadian Football)
Robert Woodson (born October 4, 1995) is a Canadian former professional football defensive back who played for the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played U Sports football with the Calgary Dinos from 2013 to 2016. Professional career Woodson was drafted by the Argonauts 27th overall in the 2017 CFL Draft and signed a two-year contract with the club on May 22, 2017. He made the active roster following training camp and played in his first professional regular season game on June 25, 2017, against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats where he recorded four defensive tackles. For the 2017 season, he played in 12 regular season games and had eight defensive tackles and seven special teams tackles. He also played in both post-season games that year and played in his first Grey Cup game while in his rookie year. He won his first championship following the Argonauts' 105th Grey Cup win over the Calgary Stampeders where he posted two special teams tackles in the game. ... 2018 Toronto Argonauts Season
The 2018 Toronto Argonauts season was the 61st season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 146th season overall. The Argonauts failed to improve upon their 9–9 record from 2017, losing their tenth game of the season to the Calgary Stampeders on September 28. Following their week 17 loss to the BC Lions on October 6, 2018, the Argonauts were the first team eliminated from post-season contention. They became the first team since the 2006 Edmonton Eskimos to fail to qualify for the playoffs in the year after winning the Grey Cup. This was the second season with Jim Popp as general manager and Marc Trestman as head coach. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are a professional Canadian football team based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Blue Bombers compete in the Canadian Football League (CFL) as a member club of the league's West division. They play their home games at IG Field. Anthony Woodson (born January 7, 1988) is a professional Canadian football running back who is currently a free agent. He was drafted 29th overall by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 2010 CFL Draft and played for parts of two seasons with the club. On September 9, 2013, Woodson was traded to the Toronto Argonauts, along with a fifth round draft pick in 2014, in exchange for offensive lineman Marc Parenteau and a third round draft pick in 2014. Safety is a position in gridiron football on the American football positions#Defense, defense. The safeties are defensive backs who line up ten to fifteen yards from the line of scrimmage. There are two variations of the position: the free safety and the strong safety. Their duties depend on the defensive scheme. Halfback (Canadian Football)
The halfback in Canadian football, and most commonly the Canadian Football League, currently refers to the defensive back rather than the running back, as in American football. The defensive halfback lines up inside covering the slotback. They are usually slightly larger than the cornerback to assist the linebackers in stopping the run. They can also be seen backing off the line early, to counter the forward motion of a slotback, which is allowed before the snap in the CFL. The cause of the difference in naming between the two positions between the American and Canadian game, which otherwise uses the same names for positions, stems from the early history of the game.
