Robert Weaver (January 6, 1921 – January 26, 2008) was an influential Canadian editor and broadcaster. Born in Niagara Falls and educated at the University of Toronto, Weaver served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. From 1948 to 1985, Robert Weaver worked at the CBC where he created a series of shows that identified and featured then unknown Canadian writers such as Alice Munro, Mordecai Richler, Timothy Findley, Margaret Atwood, and Leonard Cohen. In 1956 Weaver founded the ''Tamarack Review'', a Canadian literary magazine, focus of a literary revival which led to Toronto's overhauling Montreal as the literary capital of English Canada; for example, Weaver annually visited Canadian universities where he had literary friends (mostly from the University of Toronto) to encourage undergraduates to publish new poems and stories. Robert Weaver (July 5, 1924 – September 4, 1994) was an American illustrator who was considered a pioneer of a contemporary approach to the field that began in the 1950s. Biography Beginning in 1952, he embarked on a mission to combine the visual ideas found in fine art with the responsibility of journalist. At the time, many practitioners of illustration were expected to paint and draw for advertising and magazine assignments with artwork that was conservative, idealized and saccharine, while other illustrators such as Ronald Searle, Arthur Szyk, George Grosz, Kathe Kollwitz and later Ralph Steadman and Tomi Ungerer injected their own opinion into the matter. Weaver joined this latter tradition by moving his role of an illustrator from a page decorator to a journalist. Robert "Wingnut" Weaver (born 1965) is an American surfer. He has appeared in several of Bruce Brown (director), Bruce Brown's surf films, starring in three of them alongside Pat O'Connell (surfer), Pat O'Connell. Robert Weaver (c. 1630 – 1687) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons from Jan 1659 to Apr 1659. Weaver was the son and heir of Thomas Weaver, Esq. of Aymestrey, HerefordshireC.J. Robinson, ''A History of the Mansions & Manors of Herefordshire'', 1872, p.20 and his wife Anne Lewis of Radnorshire, and cousin to Richard Weaver (MP) and Edmund Weaver (MP). Robert Edward Weaver
Robert Edward Weaver (November 15, 1913 – July 18, 1991) was an American regionalist artist, and illustrator. He was professor emeritus of art at the Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis, Indiana. Weaver earned a BFA from the Herron School in 1938. Weaver grew up in Peru, Indiana, winter home of the American Circus Corporation, a conglomerate of circuses that traveled the country at the later part of the 19th and early 20th centuries. The circus performers that frequented his father's general store influenced his creative senses. Early career and recognition Weaver won the John Armstrong Chaloner Paris Prize in 1937. This was the largest single art prize at that time for painters in the United States, consisting of a $6,000 stipend for study overseas for 3 years, and a New York studio space.
