Robert W. Duplessie is an American politician and firefighter from Maine. Duplessie, grew up in North Vassalboro, Maine and graduated from Winslow High School. A Democrat, served from 1998 to 2006 in the Maine House of Representatives, where he represented a portion of Westbrook. During his first two terms, he served on the Natural Resources Committee and during his final two terms, Duplessie served as Assistant Majority Leader of the House of Representatives. Maine House Of Representatives
The Maine House of Representatives is the lower house of the Maine Legislature. The House consists of 151 voting members and three nonvoting members. The voting members represent an equal number of districts across the state and are elected via plurality voting. The nonvoting members represent three of Maine's Native American tribes, though two tribes have declined to send representatives. Each voting member of the House represents around 9,000 citizens of the state. Because it is a part-time position, members of the Maine House of Representatives usually have outside employment as well. Members are limited to four consecutive terms of two years each, but may run again after two years. The House meets at the Maine State House in Augusta. William Lemke
William Frederick Lemke (August 13, 1878 – May 30, 1950) was an American politician who represented North Dakota in the United States House of Representatives as a member of the Republican Party. He was also the Union Party's presidential candidate in the 1936 presidential election. Life and career He was born in Albany, Minnesota, and raised in Towner County, North Dakota, the son of Fred Lemke and Julia Anna Kleir, pioneer farmers who had accumulated some of land. As a boy, Lemke worked long hours on the family farm, attending a common school for only three months in the summers. Ann Elizabeth Peoples ( Murphy; January 31, 1947 – November 12, 2019) was an American politician from Maine. A Democrat, Peoples was elected for the third time in 2010 to represent part of Westbrook, Cumberland County. She also has served on the Westbrook City Council and Planning Board. Peoples was unable to seek re-election to the Maine House of Representatives for a 5th consecutive term in 2014 due to term-limits. The Maine Democratic Party is the affiliate of the Democratic Party in the U.S. state of Maine. After the Civil War, Democrats were a minor player in a political scene dominated by the Republican Party. However, during the 1950s, Edmund Muskie led an expansive political insurgency culminating in his election as Governor of Maine and successive Democratic elections to both state and national offices. From 2012 to 2019, despite having a Republican governor in Paul LePage, the party remained strong, holding key offices in the state government and the U.S. Congress and maintaining a majority in the Maine House of Representatives for six of LePage's eight years in office. Westbrook is a city in Cumberland County, Maine, United States and a suburb of Portland. The population was 20,400 at the 2020 census, making it the fastest-growing city in Maine between 2010 and 2020.
