Robert Vere De Vere
Robert Stephen Vere de Vere (13 July 1872 – 15 September 1936) was an Irish judge in the British Colonial Service. He was the son of Major Aubrey Stephen Vere O’Brien of Adare, Limerick, Ireland and changed his surname to de Vere by Royal Licence after inheriting Curragh Chase on the death of his father in 1898. He was educated at Winchester School and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he was awarded B.A. in 1891, and LL.B. in 1894. He then entered the Middle Temple to study law and was "called to the bar" in 1898. He joined the Colonial Civil Service in Limerick and served as a Magistrate before going to South Africa with the Paget's Horse Regiment to fight in the Boer War. He later served as Lieutenant in the 5th (Cinque Ports) Battalion of the Royal Sussex Regiment. Curraghchase Forest Park
Curraghchase is a forest park located in County Limerick. It is 20 km from the city of Limerick, between the towns of Adare and Askeaton. The land was the Hunt/de Vere family estate for 300 years (1657–1957), including the period of the de Vere baronets, also serving as the home of renowned poet and critic Aubrey Thomas De Vere. Archaeology In the park area there are 8 classified sites; 1 cairn, 2 enclosures, 3 ringforts, 1 Menhir, standing stone and the 18th century house probably built on the site of Curragh Castle which is mentioned in Desmond Roll. Environment The park consists of mainly broadleaf and mixed woodland with some mature conifer stands, parkland with some of the area under water. The woods occur on low limestone ridges. Handley Moule
Handley Carr Glyn Moule (23 December 18418 May 1920) was an evangelical Anglican theologian, writer, poet, and Bishop of Durham from 1901 to 1920. Biography Moule was schooled at home before entering Trinity College, Cambridge in 1860, where he graduated BA in 1864. He was elected a Fellow of Trinity in 1865, and became an assistant master at Marlborough College before he was ordained deacon in 1867 and priest in 1868. From 1867 he was his father's curate at Fordington, Dorset, with a stint of five years as Dean of Trinity College chapel, 1873–1877. In 1880 he became the first principal of Ridley Hall, Cambridge, and then in 1899 became Norrisian Professor of Divinity at the University of Cambridge, until his appointment as Bishop of Durham in September 1901.
